“A place to relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2014

Stayed here for 10 nights early June. Resort is fantastic. Golf courses, average on the whole, not many holes you walk off thinking, wow I could remember that one. Courses really we'll maintained and buggys which were quite pricy €39 were decent because they had the gps which showed you the way. Which is needed because quite a few holes are dog leg. North course you need a buggy, first tee is about 3/4 mile from the pro shop and some holes they could put a par 4 in between the walk between green to next tee. South course really nice enjoyable front 9 but back 9 is abit Micky mouse. Not even challenging just silly, for example the 17th is a par 4 320 yds on the card but probably 220 yards away but you cannot go near the green it's a 100 degree dog leg pretty much coming back on yourself. Then after that it's 1/2 a mile over an ecosystem to the 18th tee. Buggy recommended for this course too!'
Spanish golfers have no etiquette, they do not play fast and never let you through. No one was in front of them and they refused to let us through, ended up being a 4 he round.
A golf club worth visiting near by is called nuevo portil. It's about 15 minutes in the car or even less.
This resort is fantastic if you want to play golf and relax, other than that there's no real point in coming here. There is nothing and I mean nothing nearby unless you walk 45 minutes to el rompido, perplex write on here it's a 20 minute walk, it's not they must have ran. You need to rent a car if you stay here.
Room, very nice two bed two bath apartment can't complain nice view of the south course from balcony. Food, nice buffet which regularly changes food, you don't get bored.
Would I come on holiday here again?
Probably not simply for the fact that it's in the middle of know where.
Would I recommend?
If the person wanted to play golf and sit round a pool, yes.
Would not recommend staying here for more than 5 days.
Hope this helps.

We spent a couple of nights here on our way back from a golf break. Wanted to check it out for our Club for future trips. No-one could provide information on packages but we were given e-mail addresses to contact them again. No-one offered to contact us!!! However, our stay in a 2 bed 2 bath apartment was fine - everything worked properly and the gardens etc are lovely. We ate in the El Rompido village by the river so can't comment on the buffet restaurant. We got the impression the whole place was gearing up for the "main season" meaning the Spanish invasion from June 15th. The free trip on the the little train and then a boat to see the sand dunes and beaches on the flecha del mar sand spit was a nice bonus as were the glasses of wine courtesy of a French travel company! We would consider staying here again as the golf courses looked very good.

My husband and I stayed here during the 3rd week of January - very quiet at this time of year with around 200 guests. The weather was mixed, with warm sunshine, rain and a bitterly cold wind.

The resort itself is beautiful and our room in the hotel was lovely and spacious (we had one that looked over the pool and golf course). We asked to see a 2 bed apartment and would describe them as basic with a very good standard of decor. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. There is a pretty, 20 minute walk into El Rompido village where there is a long beach and numerous restaurants.

The resort has 2 golf courses (North and South). The north course is probably the easiest and more evenly spread out. The second half of the south course is more challenging with a few tight doglegs and narrow fairways. During our visit, both courses were very wet - winter golf shoes are essential at this time of year.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would go back.

We stayed here for couple of nights to do a spot of bird watching and to explore the area. We were with friends and the weather was perfect. We were upgraded to a superior apartment which was located with great views and a balcony opening out onto a lawn overlooking the pools. It was very clean and quite comfortable, though we didn't spend much time inside. We would have liked a kettle, or a slightly larger saucepan to boil water for our tea and coffee. We're not sure about the 20 minute walk into town, as we took the path through the golf course and marshes, which is shorter, but took us over half an hour. The town had some splendid restaurants, with lovely fresh prawns and fish.

We ate at the hotel the second night, and for 15 Euros we ate well, a wide ranging buffet with unlimited wine! We were amazed how they could feed the hundreds so well, and where everyone came from, because our end of the resort, the club, was quiet and peaceful, and most of all, very, very reasonably priced. The staff, those that we saw, were all extremely efficient and obliging. We would be most happy to return to this resort.

Just got back from a short stay in El Rompido.

Location: Easy to get to from Faro airport. About a 15-20 minute walk into town in the evenings and their little train/bus service stops at 6pm (probably to encourage you to eat at the hotel!).

Rooms: We stayed in the apartments and for the most part they were great. Ask for an apartment at the end of the row as you get a massive balcony! Ours overlooked the first tee on the South Course and had a stunning view over out into the marshland and the bay.

Golf: We played the south course three times and the north course once. The south course was definitely more interesting. We hired a buggy for two rounds, which came with an excellent LCD touchscreen GPS system: very cool! Both courses were in very good condition and were always being maintained by ground staff. If you're staying on-site then golf is cheaper paying at the clubhouse each day rather than pre-booking online with any company.

Food: Very average. Breakfast was acceptable with the normal cooked food, meats, cheeses, breads, croissants etc. Lunch and dinner were quite disappointing though. Quite bland and mass produced. As it’s essentially “all you can eat” it’s OK value for €15, but you’d be better off getting something from one of the bars or going to “La Terazza” (the restaurant at the golf club). The quality in the Hotel restaurant was better, but still not worth €25. Two nights we ate in El Rompido at Dona Gamba, which was better value and much better quality.

Facilities: We used the Spa, which cost €10 if you weren’t staying in the hotel, which was good value. The gym is basic but functional. The pool areas were nice and quiet and the pool was rather fresh but very clean. The supermarket on-site is great and very good value.

All in all I’d definitely go back to the resort, mainly for the golf, but I wouldn’t bother with half or full board unless you prefer quantity over quality when it comes to your food.

As a side note: booking the holiday through Easyjet and getting rounds of golf on arrival was much cheaper than going through the golf tour operators and buying flights separately.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the end of the corridor: massive balcony and nice and quiet.

I stayed here for the Mail on Sunday golf tournament finals and I was very impressed. The hotel is modern and spacious, with a lovely atmosphere. It was too cold for us to swim but the pool area looked very nice and relaxing. The rooms were comfortable - nice big beds and a little balcony. Our shower wasn't perfect but was quite adequate and we had a bath, too - great for soothing the muscles after golf. We played the South golf course and watched the tournament on the North course and both were very good. The South course was slow as it's the easier of the two so seemed to have lots of hackers on it - but don't let that put you off, it's a lovely course and meanders round a nature reserve so very pleasant. The food was enjoyable and the staff were friendly. My only criticism is that the housekeeping was poor - the knock on the door was too early, things we didn't want thrown away were thrown away and things we did left out. I very rarely comment on housekeeping because it's usually so good at these quality resorts, but I think I had a rogue on my corridor! I expect that's not usual though and I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and resort.

Room Tip: Some rooms have balconies overlooking the pool and some overlook the golf course. Rooms near the bar...
