We chose the Chateau Ribagnac for a 3 night stay after reading the Alistair Sawday review, but we were very disappointed. Ok - the property is old, creaks, is cold and has no sound proofing - all to be expected and part of the fun. But - everything appears to be done on the cheap - painfully cheap, non -supportive, inadequate mattress,
no toiletries except one small piece of soap for 3 days, towels not replaced, bathroom not cleaned daily, no heating and furniture generally just old and tatty rather than stylish. During our stay, the Chateau was over run with screaming children belonging to both guests and owners - impossible to sit outside because of the noise and debris of toys. No effort made to consider the disgruntled guests
looking for a bit of quiet - this is no place for lone adults. Meal times are ridiculously late - to suit the owners who eat earlier in the evening with their own family and the children staying- on the last night we did not get the main course until 11-30 p.m. with 12 people passing round one plate of meat leaving a few morsels of cold food served onto cold plates. A first course of sliced tomatoes and sliced cheese hardly justifies the prices charged. Similarly breakfast was no better having to clear yourself a space amidst other
peoples debris - yuch! In fairness the first night with only one other couple was much more civilised but it was sharply downhill thereafter as no extra staff employed to serve, irrespective of the number of guests. All very well, but at over £500 for our 3 nights, all a bit of a "rip off".
Capitalising on TV exposure Chateau Ribignac is very over priced for a rather poor, cost cutting level of accommodation clearly designed to provide the owners with their required standard of living with little apparent regard for the comfort of guests - the majority of whom appeared to be one nighters heading from or to the South.
Unless you like hoardes of screaming children and have not experienced the value provided by French owners of Chateax we recommend you avoid.
