My partner and I got moved to this hotel at very short notice due to over booking at the Dunas Mirador, and to be fair, I think we got a good deal. We paid £640, but then got £80 back from Thomas cook because of the mix up, Lots of people had been over booked and moved as it turned out.
We arrived after a long flight shoe horned into a Thomas Cook flight, i would not use Thomas Cook again, the flight was torture.
The hotel is very isolated, and up a very steep hill, yes it is walkable, but I would not try and take a buggy up it, the road is in really bad repair, and the footpath is not wide enough to get a buggy, not a problem for us, as no children, but i did feel sorry for folk with little ones.
We were given a room in Block 6...which is as far away from reception and pools as you could get, with a pretty grim view of the roof tops, It was 4 lift journeys and a good bit of walking to find the room, my partner had a broken toe, and reception quickly changed us to block 3, still a bit of a hike but not so bad, so we packed up, lugged the cases up the first 2 lifts, only to discover that the lift to our floor was out of order, one side broken, the other had caught on fire! so up 70 very steep steps to our floor.
The lift was out of order for 3 and a half days, this really spoilt the holiday, you have to be prepared to take everything you need with you when you leave your room, no popping back.
Apart from the lifts being out of order, and these things happen, the room was very pleasant, the bathroom was lovely, with a separate shower, bath, loo, and sink, the rooms were very clean and the sleeping area is large, the beds maybe a bit hard, but not a problem. The balcony looks out over the bay and on to Mogan, which is beautiful. There is no drawers in the room, but plenty of storage none the less.
We went All inclusive, but our room did have the self catering facilities in it, which i think you would struggle to cook and serve up in, very small 2 rings and a sink, no space to dish up, and no kettle, but a pan so you can boil water etc.
The pools are also very clean, infact the hotel is clean and very pleasant, because it was Feb the pools where cold, but that is to be expected too, although we did venture into the family pool. The adult pool looks lovely, and it is quiet up there if you want to chill.
The food was alot better than i had expected, i dont have high expectations for AI food, it is always the same and repeated, but i always found something to eat, and it was tasty, there is a lot of veal and liver served, i dont eat either, so struggled for a main course 1 night, but i still didnt leave hungry.
The pool bar serve lovely burgers if you do struggle at lunch time.
The staff are very friendly.
I am pleased we were AI as the drinks alone would have worked out costly, a coke was 2.10 euros. SO if you are travelling with a family i would suggest you would def save on the AI deal.
We went to the reps meeting, and it was informative, we took a couple of trips, they will offer a free trip to Amfi...be aware this is a time share place, and you will get the hard sell. We wasted a morning here :(
The catamarang trip was ok, but dont be fooled by the picture the rep shows you, and the promise of a romantic trip with sun beds and hammocks, there was about 12 sunbeds, no hammocks, and then lots of wooden garden chairs nailed to the deck, with not enough padded seat covers to go around. We went downstairs and sat on the back of the boat near the jaccuzzi and caught some sun, the food on this trip is not the best, But you do get to see some stunning scenery. You can hire a jet ski for 25 euros, my partner did and really enjoyed it. The cat moors up so you can have a swim too. It was a nice trip but not what was sold to us.
Due to the hassle of the lifts not working, and the remote location, we chose to go into Mogan a few days, you will be told the taxi is 5 euros, it is not, it is about 8 each way, so with tip you are looking at 20 euros to get there and back, but it is beautiful and lots to do down there.
We went on the yellow submarine, it was really good, cost 22 euros each, but not every day you get the chance to go on a sub and see the sea bed and ship wrecks.
The beach at mogan is lovely, you pay for sunbeds 3 euros each, but well worth it.
There is a duty free shop in Mogan, and we got 200 CK cigarettes for 6 euros, they are like benson and hedges silver, a real bargain!
This hotel does not get sunshine until about mid day, which was a real downer, as you can see the taurito princess across the bay baking in the morning sunshine.
All in all the holiday was good, and the hotel was lovely, but not suitable if you have any health problems, it is on the side of a cliff, and i cant stress enough about all the stairs and crazy lift lay out. The weather was lovely, we have come back tanned, we only had one gloomy day, and it cleared the skies for a lovely sunny hot day.
There is internet there, and wi fi but its not free, also there is only CNN on the tv in english, admittedly we dont go on holiday to watch tv, but if you want to watch some in the evening, you would struggle.
Best advice is try and request a room in block 1 or 2 to save all the hassles of the mad lay out. The hotel shop is expensive, go down to the Cala Blanca just about 50 yards down the hill, their shop is much cheaper :)
Overall you will have a nice time, and you could do a lot worse than this hotel.
