“Excellent food, beautiful view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

Found this restaurant whilst out on a walk. Went in just for a drink but saw the food other people were having and decided to give it a go. We ate off the 'menu of the day' which was a starter, main course, bread, bottle of wine, coffee or dessert and liquer, It was delicious but you have to be hungry! We went back twice after that and each time it was excellent. Its in a wonderful spot, the family who run it are lovely and so friendly we will definitely go back again.

“Great food, great service, great view.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

El Faro is a lovely restaurant in Cala de Torret, a short 10 to 15 minute walk from Binibeca Nou and Binibeca Vell. It is a family run business with father and son at front of house and mum inside the kitchen. One of the real appeals of El Faro is its stunning location, right next to the shoreline which affords excellent sea views and beautiful skies and sea at sunset (although its orientation means you don't actually see the sun as it sets from the restaurant).

The service was really very good. Friendly and helpful, you are made to feel welcome. Son Andres' English is very good and he shows a real interest in his customers, it isn't just a case of taking your order and disappearing.

Three of us dined together and we all chose the 3 course "Menu del Dia" including wine for €21. This is a little more than some of the 3 course menus elsewhere in the area but I feel that this is justified by the view and the quality of the food. Unlike an earlier reviewer I felt that the choice of dishes was good with a broad range of grilled meats and fish to choose from. We shared grilled prawns, grilled sardines and scallop shells filled with fish and seafood for starters, all of which were generous and very tasty. For main course we all went for the sea bream which was really excellent: tasty, fresh firm fish beautifully cooked. This was all washed down with a very nice bottle of Rioja that was included in the menu. We closed with a combination of chocolate and banana cake, chocolate mousse and apple pie. It is fair to say that the desserts were good but not outstanding. A choice of digestifs/liqueurs were offered "on the house" which was a nice touch.

On balance, a very good meal. The location was memorable and the quality and freshness of the fish, in particular, was excellent.

It's also worth noting that they have free wi-fi too. If I'd have discovered this earlier in my holiday I'd have regularly passed by in the early evening for a drink. I can't think of a better location and view for catching up with email.

“Great views, good value menu del dia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

We ate at Faro's twice during our stay in Menorca. Great location, with lovely views across the sea, and friendly staff. On our first visit we both had the menu del dia, which at €21 each for 3 courses, bread, and a half bottle of wine or Cava, was good value, although the choice was a bit limited, especially the starters. I had chicken croquettes, as there wasn't another starter I fancied, they were OK but rather too filling for a starter. I had lamb chops for the main course, the saute potatoes and salad with them were very good but the chops were overcooked and rather tough. My husband had swordfish, with chips and salad, which he enjoyed. We were offered a liqueur on the house when we asked for the bill, which was nice.

We went for the a la carte menu the second time, which is a lot more expensive. I had lemon sole and my husband had pork fillet in pepper sauce, the food was OK but expensive for what we got. We asked for house white wine which we were told was a Chardonnay, in fact it hadn't arrived by the time we finished our starter and we had to ask again, the waiter had forgotten. When it arrived it wasn't a Chardonnay, but it was nice wine!

We weren't over-impressed with any of the restaurants in the Binibeca area, they were all over-priced and the food wasn't that great, but we would go back to this one.
