My partner and I wanted to discover and learn about the heart of Tuscan agriculture, and so went on the Arianna & Friends Cheese and Olive Oil tour. Our guide Luca was superb. Being a young local olive oil and wine producer himself, his knowledge of Tuscan agricultural culture, tradition, process and methods was excellent. And his passion for this made the tour fantastic and a lot of fun. At the cheese factory, Luca explained and showed us in depth how Pecorino and fresh Ricotta cheese are made, and introduced us to the 3rd generation owner of the organic farm and his family, who joined us for an amazing lunch. Before the Olive Oil mill, we were able to explore Volterra for an hour by ourselves to take in its beautiful scenery and history. The Olive Oil mill made for a perfect afternoon, with Luca explaining and showing how real Extra Virgin Olive Oil is made, and teaching us how and what to look for when tasting different oils. We were then introduced to the owner of the Mill who took the time to sit with us and answer all our questions. The shop at the mill was equally as superb, allowing us to buy some of the great produce we tasted. All in all, a fantastic day, and one we highly recommend to anyone interested in Tuscan agriculture and tradition.
