Although far away from the shopping areas, I would recommend the Dunes Resort. The rooms were clean, the food was tasty and their staff were extremely courteous. The night shows were on time and very entertaining. The resort also provides a shuttle service to the town and malls.

My family stayed at the Dunes hotel during October 23rd to October 26th 2014, our stay was less than perfect. First of all we requested a room on the ground floor because my mother-in-law has a heart condition and climbing stairs is difficult for her, even though we tried to tell the guy at the reception this, he insisted that there was no rooms available and she would have to take a room at the second level until the next day. Next day they did change the room, however the toilet was leaking and sewer was smelling, we again asked to be put in another room only after my husband caused a scene did they change the room. The guy working night shift on the 25th October was very helpful and so to was bellboy Ronaldo. This is our second time at this hotel, first time everything was wonderful and this is why we chose to return. To the managers you should tell you staff to be more helpful and friendly and considerate to to guests also stop being bias towards guests who are Spanish speaking. House keeping is not clean our rooms were not cleaned at all, towels were not changed, the floors were not even swept. It could be a great hotel but you need to address these and other issues. I strongly advice people to not stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: stay at new side of hotel

Wow! Three days four nights and I want to stay!
The room was just a little short of being perfect, needing a little renovation, but it was still amazing! The beds were comfortable, sheets clean, a/c worked, hot/ cold worked, lavatory worked, lights worked. The room, although on the ground floor, had a nice little patio to enjoy the outdoor courtyard. The door lock takes a little getting used to, but once you get the hang of it it's easy!
The staff are amazingly friendly. The cleaning staff is very pleasant, the waiting staff are friendly and efficient, the bartenders are just what you'd expect in them: skilled, talented and always ready to pour :D.
The pools are beautiful. Activities in and around wonderful. The activities staff is very talented with children, elderly persons and in between!
The beach! O my! Beautiful! lounge chairs are available for under the carrat tents or on the sands. The beach bar is, again, wonderful! One of the best bartenders I have ever seen! There were a few people at the bar. He took orders, didn't get one wrong, prepared mixed drinks while pouring beer never missing a beat! The few vendors will approach you, but once you say no they just leave you. I would recommend the little shop down the beach, also accessible from the Kid's Park. The trinkets there are way cheaper than other places on the island. There is also a little coconut bar. Quite nice!
I went in an all-inclusive package and was not disappointed! While the beer is Polar Light it just keeps coming! Drinks were amazing one after the other, no end in sight! The alcohol is not watered down, but prepared in very Spanish ways to make the average Trinidadian drinker think it is watered down. The bartenders, again, know how to mix mixed drinks!
The food was great. Not salty or spicy: very Spanish. Well cooked, presented and varied. Beef, fish, pork, chicken, rice, potatoes, fruit and countless others! However, if you are accustomed to very spicy (as many Trinidadians are) this may not be the island, or country, for you.
The activities area, poolside, is very interesting to say the least! Outdoors, the entertainment was nice while getting the warm (yes warm!) Caribbean breeze blowing in from the beach!
The property has an interesting tram that makes the rounds around the property every few minutes. The walk, while not too long from one end, may be tiring in the heat. The tram is a nice way to go!
All in all quite enjoyed my stay at Dunes! Will be returning!

For my first vacation, I must say I had a wonderful time. For $3200.00tt it was money well spent. The people in the Resort were lovely, friendly and kind. I had no bad experience. The food in the restaurants were Excelente! The Drinks were served kindly by the camareros. I thoroughly enjoyed the Beach,,,who needs a pool when you have a wonderful beach! (the pools were awesome and clean btw). i enjoyed meeting people from the mainland and other Latin American Countries. The taxistas were friendly and i toured Most of the island.
Will I recommend here to anyone? Of course! The Disquoteca was Awesome! my feet hurt for days after!
Gracias por unas preciosas dunas de vacaciones, voy a volver!

I stayed a dunes in july of 2014 this is my second visit to this resort. We were a party of 4 adults and 1 child. We stayed in the premium room. It was lovely very private. We had a pool just for the persons on that block as well as a restaurant. We had wifi in our rooms. Although this area is far from the beach and reception the shuttle was very reliable. The food at this resort was good, we did not have the problem of recycle food. The only bad experience at this resort was the colombians and spanish speeking ppl at this resort do not have any courtesy and respect for others. We had excellent room service. Staff was always willing.

I enjoy visiting margarita island, can't wait for my next visit.

Room Tip: As for the premium rooms if you are looking for a nice quiet vacation

As is an all-inclusive resort you could stay the whole time in it, it has good resturants with plenty of daily options, nice pool area and a private beach. The buildings are probably from the 80's and lack a renovation, but still is a good place to stay.

The hotel itself was basic for survivor :) we asked the staff to clean it up for us once again in the morning and then every two days, and it was OK. We stayed at the old section of the hotel. No internet access except for the lounge . Food was ok but at the beginning we didn't like but later on it grew on us. The pools were clean but we stayed mostly at the beach which was fantastic! Best beach in Margarita.
Other guests complained on brown water and cockroaches (new section), in the old one we did not experience those problems. Generally if you want to only sleep in the room and explore the island it's a cheap place to be.

Room Tip: The old part of the hotel has great Venezuela feeling and lots of green trees and birds that wake yo...
