“Charged extra for having children in a FAMILY ROOM”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

On arrival at the hotel I checked in expecting to pay a reduced price through their friends and family rates for employees (my son in law works for the company and had booked the room). However, on checking in with my two small nieces I was informed that although it was a Family Room they only had my name on the booking and so I would have to pay an additional £20 to cover the cost of the children staying! Considering it was a family room you would think that it would be obvious there would be more than one person staying in it and the only additional cost incurred was breakfast for two children!!
Also, the restaurant has been refurbished recently to incorporate a 'Family Italian Restaurant', read the blurb and listen to the staff telling you the story of Vinnie and how he started this restaurant chain... it is actually all lies!!
In the new restaurant we had breakfast which as far as hotel breakfasts go was very sub-standard, the hot food was all over cooked and tasteless, the pastries were stale and there was no jams for the toast or the croissants.
I have stayed here a few times and had niggling problems before but this is the final resort and I will NEVER stay there again!

Room Tip: For a good room go to another hotel!

The service and room at the Village were great - the upper deck room had some nice 'treats' such as Starbucks coffee hot chocolate sachets as well as biscuits and water. However, there is no aircon and in the recent 'heatwave' the room was boiling - too hot to sleep in - and as usual in hotels the windows opened about an inch!! There was a small desk fan but this wasn't enough. Annoyingly the room also stayed warmer than both outside and in the corridor.

The buffet breakfast was of a good standard - although the sausage tasted weird - and the staff again were really helpful and attentive.

Free parking was also a bonus and the gym facilities were good.

We booked this hotel to attend a wedding in the area. Checked in late to find we had a room in the annexe which involved walking behind the hotel past the bins and generator. The room was a disabled access room so a decent size but no bath and a shower that stayed stubbornly at waist height. We complained and hotel readily agreed to upgrade us but couldn't do that till the second night. Only one set of towels was provided. They did move our bags for us after we went off to the wedding so when we got back they were already in the new room. This was an 'upper deck' room which was much nicer, with a bath and shower. The bed was very comfortable. There was no sign of any Starbucks coffee as advertised, other than the logo on the mugs, just sachets of kenco and PG. Breakfast was buffet style including a reasonable full English option. There was also toast, some fruit and cereals. The pastries were a bit stodgy. All the staff we dealt with were helpful and generally friendly, and for £60 per night including breakfast it's good value but there were also lots of things that made it a bit disappointing. Overall it was ideal in the sense that we were not spending a lot of time at the hotel - if so I think we would rather stay somewhere a bit more upmarket.

Booked the 'upper level' room to ensure comfortable bed, and was not disappointed. As was extremely hot, we asked for, and got, a fan. Much needed.

However, they advertised Starbucks coffee in the room, yes there was - but in SACHETS!

They advertised, with a A display by the bed, 2 different breakfasts, including one with a Skinny Muffin. But, there weren't any in the dinning room. Asked about them and no- one knew anything. On extremely close examination of the advertisement, there was really tiny writing at the bottom of the display saying it was in the Starbucks Cafe in reception, to buy! A bit misleading advertising. So don't expect Skinny Muffins. Receptionists mumbled apologises.

The breakfast itself, very poor selection and the bananas,well.... They should have been binned days ago! Asked for fresh ones, but they were all dreadful. The pastries, poor, dried up. Cooked - usual selection, but dried up black pudding, and tasteless, rubber scrambled eggs.

We were given ice and glasses from the bar for our own use in the bedroom.

Didn't get to use the pool, but looked lovely.

Would we go back, yes - slept well, but would forget the breakfast.

Room Tip: Rooms on the left hand side may hear the air con units outside.

I booked a spa break here for my 50th birthday in july, last November, there were ten of us and I requested we were all near each other, four rooms on first floor, one on second and one outside!!! The staff were nice and friendly, the treatments and spa were very relaxing.
Our meal was booked for 8.00pm but we hadn't received our main course at 10pm??? After much complaining and other little niggles we reported we were offered a full refund which we accepted, all in all not a bad place to stay but the service in the restaurant is abysmal.

just back from a lovely night away for our friends 40th birthday. hotel had a great feel to it, a lot of people celebrating birthdays and hen nights. we had a package of room evening meal and spa treatments, was realy looking forward to the meal as the restaurant had just opened, was very impressed with the decor, but food was VERY slow, we sat down at 7.30 and 9.30 we finally got some food, sadly it looked nice but lacked in taste and the pizzas were rock hard, realy sad that the hotels restaurant let it down in this way

I organised a party of 24 people, to stay 2 nights on dinner, bed and breakfast. We've stayed several times in the past, and its a decent place. Not 5* but fit the bill and close to our venue for the weekend. Rooms are good, beds great, sky sports, decent gym, coffee shop.

Then they opened Vinni & Vito. What a shambles. Placed order at 12 noon for a 8.30pm meal and we are still waiting for garlic bread at 11.32pm. Starter, 45 minutes. Main, almost 90 minutes. Dessert, almost 2 hours. This was pre-ordered. The second night, despite speaking to the restaurant boss, was exactly the same. He avoided us once we complained. It was a shambles. Other tables left.

I will be looking elsewhere for my booking next year.
