The location and views are stunning across the Moray Firth; the House sits in well kept mature gardens a few miles South of Helmsdale. Made to feel relaxed & welcome the moment you arrive in this spacious first class accommodation, very peaceful and comfortable nights sleep with very large on suite. Breakfast is of the best you are likely to ever see, can’t praise it enough.

Room Tip: All are excellent standard and size with stunning views

What can I say, this BB is far superior to some hotels that my husband and I have stayed in. We arrived to a very warm welcome by Catrionia. We had arrived quite late, and were offered coffee and shown the lounge if we wished to avail ourselves of this.

We were then shown to our room, which was the Loth bedroom, absolutely stunning with views of the Moray Coast from the window. Beautiful large room, large double bed, sofa, flatscreen tv, bedside cabinets, decorative fireplace, table with various teas, hot chocolate and coffee plus homemade shortbread. The bed was one of the comfiest beds I have slept in. There was also a hairdryer and sewing pack in the drawer and we only had to ask if we required an iron or ironing board.

There is also a large en-suite bathroom, with a beautiful stand alone deep bath, very large walk in shower, beautiful modern sink, lovely fluffy bathtowels. There was also lovely toiletries in the bathroom, Rosemary, wild nettle and heather bubble bath, hand and body lotion, cotton buds, cotton balls, handwash. After a long drive a long hot bath in bubble bath was very much appreciated and I didn't want to come out! I loved the toiletries so much that I actually stopped at the shop (Highland Soap Co) to buy them.

What can I say about breakfast apart from wonderful, well cooked and delicious. The dining room is a delight. There is a variety of fresh juices, cereals, fruits, preserves, home made rolls and muffins. I opted for a full cooked breakfast and it was beautifully cooked and plenty of it, my husband had the same. All I can say about the home made rolls is "mmmmmmmm".

The hallway has a magnificent stone floor, the house sits its own beautiful gardens and the house itself is beautiful. I can and would definitely recommend this BB. I have done nothing but tell everyone about it since we came back and will return to this BB.

Very many thanks for your kind comments! I'm glad you found the Highland Soap Company shop on your way south, hope you enjoyed stocking up. Best wishes, Catriona.

how lovely an experience staying at this B&B was. Everything was superb- from the comfortable bed to the graciousness of the Whitfields. It was obvious to us that the owners planned everything with loving care so that their guests could have an unforgettable experience. There's so many details to comment on- the spacious breakfast room, the delicious rhubard compote, the fresh flowers in our bedroom, the expansive grounds, the garden that we were able to enjoy. For anyone who is interested in visiting this part of Scotland, we recommend that you stay more than a night at the Culgower House to truly appreciate what it and its surrounding areas have to offer. Oh yes, and a belly rub for the irrepressible Biscuit!

My mother booked this B&B from Australia, so we knew little about it. We arrived late in the evening and our hosts could not have been more welcoming, bringing us a fresh pot of tea and coffee along with home made goodies. We had brought a picnic dinner with us and our hosts kindly advised us of the walking route to the beach and supplied us with some much needed midgee repellant! The bedroom was lovely, tasteful furnishings, full supply of books, tea, coffee, hot choclate, more home baked goodies. The bathroom was also amazing with lots of lovely products (shampoo, conditioner, bubble bath, moisturiser, etc). For breakfast we were asked what time we would like it (a lovely touch) and provided with an amazing choice of beautifully prepared and cooked food. I couldn't recommend this place and the hospitality highly enough. In aiddition the place is eco friendly with sustainable living which I love.

Room Tip: We had the Loth room, which comfortably fit three adults, great views, and magnificant bathroom.

Culgower House is a grand building in an equally grand setting...its grounds, which included a vast kitchen garden, fascinated us. We loved the floral arrangements in the public rooms and in our bedroom...the flowers all coming from their garden. Catriona's welcome, which included tea and delicious home made cake(I now have the recipe), set the standard for our overnight stay. Both the bedroom and ensuite bathroom were spacious and furnished to the highest standard. Breakfast too was a treat. We would definitely rate this as a 5 star B&B.

Arrived and was offered tea and homemade cake - weather so nice had it in the garden.
Room was superb - huge bed, massive bathroom, spotlessly clean.
Breakfast with homemade bread and the most yellow eggs I have ever seen! Loved the idea of different specials every day.
The Whitfields have got it just right and it would be worth the trip to Helmsdale to simply stay there!

We stayed for three nights in the Loth room over the Golden Jubilee weekend. It was the perfect base for exploring the Highlands.
The Loth room has a fantastic view, is spacious with an extremely comfortable bed. The ensuite's free standing bath was great (room for two) but the double shower was just as pleasing, especially after a hard day's walking at Duncansby Head. Toiletries from the Highland Soap Company...lush! Coffee, tea, water replenished daily, with fresh milk and home made biscuits/shortbread.
Breakfast was superb, no stipulated time as with some other places. A great choice on offer!! Good quality, local produce and home baking, home made jams & marmalade, even the fruit on offer with yoghurt is extra special compared with the more run of the mill B&Bs/hotels we've stayed at.
The hospitality shown by Catriona & John was amazing and made the stay extra special, nothing seems too much bother, incuding the offer of tea & coffee in the lounge after each day's travel, complete with more home baking. It was just a treat and we would love to go back, just can't fault it.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Loth room, located at the front of the house...wonderful sea view.
