“Mini Moon at Old Swan & Minster Mill”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

We spent two nights at Old Swan and Minster Mill on our mini honeymoon. From the booking of our riverside special room to our departure at the end of the weekend, we were spoilt.
The rooms are compact yet luxurious, with fluffy towels, dressing gowns and sumptuous bed linen. Plus a few extras; sloe gin, supplies of fresh berries, marshmallows for roasting in the fire pit. (A note to management, please mention the fire pit in your publicity, one of our fondest memories was star gazing whilst warming ourselves by a roaring fire!)
The food is also a real bonus, the breakfasts were filling with a wide choice of continental to full ycooked, with freshly collected eggs that morning. Amazing coloured yolks, thanks to the hens! The food of an evening in the restaurant was superb and I had to be rolled along the river each night after scrumptious dinners.
Finally the service, courteous and friendly at all times and on realising we were a newly wed couple a little spoiling was added.
Compared to other hotels in the Cotswolds which also have a 5 star rating, we think Minster Mill offers much better value for money.
Many thanks

Had seen this hotel a few weeks ago on Secret Escapes and when checking out the website saw the £50 off normal room rates for stays in September/October/November. So I printed a copy off and when we managed a few days' off at the end of September, thought we'd check it out. We hadn't booked ahead and were delighted to find on arrival that they had a room left - the Gladstone. Using the voucher it was £125 for the night and we found this to be worth every penny. The room was beautiful, if a little on the small side, with lovely high vaulted beamed ceiling and overlooking the lovely small courtyard and duckpond in the garden section of The Old Swan. We booked dinner then went for a stroll around the gorgeous grounds behind Minster Mill and along the River Windrush. Dinner was superb - my rack of lamb and my husband's sirloin were cooked to perfection and the vegetables from the Hotel's own garden were absolutely delicious. Paul, our waiter, was friendly, non-intrusive, incredibly efficient and even found out from the kitchen where I could buy the most delicious black rye bread locally that was on the table (Huffkins - if you're ever in The Cotswolds, check out their tea-rooms - just fab!). If we had been able to book for the following night (we were really disappointed to learn they were full that night) we would have stayed and booked a day's fishing as it's a wonderful spot and also used the spa and fitness room. So we have plenty of reason to return. From the friendly welcome on our arrival to the moment we checked out (after a wonderful full English breakfast and visiting the ruins of Minster Lovell Hall, a short walk from the Hotel, which we read about in the very informative booklets on things to do in the stunning local area that we found in our room), we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay and would not hesitate in recommending it. We will most certainly be back.

Room Tip: The Gladstone is in a quiet corner at the back of The Old Swan overlooking a lovely little courtyard...

Overall this is an interesting hotel and the room was nice although we felt £275/night was not justified by the experience. The service was average and the breakfast particularly poor. The food itself was nice but the self service system was a disappointment. There were no clean plates left, the queue to use the toaster meant our food went cold and people waited to use the one bottle of HP sauce. Room for improvement.

I am naturally very disappointed to read your review and can only apologise for the poor breakfast service the morning of your visit. The team should have been more pro-active in ensuring no delays and calculated a better plan during the morning. Needless to say, the mistakes should not have been made and we are already addressing better consistency and standards in the future.

The rooms are all lovely. We have put in so much effort to ensure that everyone loves the place, it's doubly disappointing. It's certainy not the experience we want guests to go away with and I do hope you will accept my invitation to return in the future.

Best wishes

Stayed here recently and based on recent views was very excited to visit. Rooms were very small and whilst the bed linen was of a very high quality the bed was clearly 2single beds very obviously and uncomfortably attached.Staff were very inconsistent with some eager to help whilst others looked they didn't want to be there.i am sure there are a number of other options in this area offering a better package.

Dear Sir

We are all very disappointed to read your review. The rooms in Minster Mill where you stayed are smaller than in Old Swan although this is reflected in the prices. The facilities and amenities in the rooms are all extremely high quality so I am sorry you felt them expensive. We feel they offer really good value especially taking into consideration all the other facilities and wonderful grounds.

Some of the beds in Minster Mill are "zip and link". and make king-sized beds once linked. The beds are all new and good quality. Once they are zipped and the protective cover added, you should not feel anything at all. I can only apologise if this was not the case and ensure with our housekeeping that this does not happen again. I am sorry you didnt let us know whilst you were staying as we could have easily corrected this.

We are also very saddened to learn that you found some of the staff unhelpful. We have a young and friendly team who are all enthusiastic about the Old Swan & Minster Mill and what has been achieved here in such a short time. Please accept my apologies if you felt that your experience wasn't up to our normal standards. Everyone will be disappointed to read your feedback.

Yours sincerely
Ian Solkin

We stayed for a weekend and it was the perfect weekend getaway. The hotel was so charming, the staff so helpful and the rooms and food superb. Nothing was too much trouble and everyone was so helpful. We couldnt have had a better weekend away. I would absolutely recommed staying here - it really is a fantastic hotel in a beautiful location with the most friendly and helpful staff you could imagine.

We only came here on the weekend for Sunday lunch - but would definitely come back to stay. It was such a treat. We were quite a large party with six children aged 2-8 between us. The staff coped admirably, there was plenty for the children - and the adults - to engage with. And the food - oh the food was really fantastic (especially the treacle tart. In fact it was so good, that I had to ask for extra to take home. They immediately cut me a massive slice, and threw in some of their delicious bread and butter pudding too). I didn't check the wine menu but my pinot grigio slipped down a treat, and the Virgin Marys were pitch-perfect in spice and taste. really top notch. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere relaxed. Afterwards we took in our surroundings - tennis court, beautiful river, walkways and pathways, guinea pigs, playground, just picture postcard england. Also, just a walk away, is a wonderful old ruin to climb on and enjoy. Thank you Old Swan - what a wonderful day. I didn't see the bill so can't judge on pricing, and we didn't see the rooms

We all had a delightful weekend celebrating a Golden Wedding Anniversary. The food was very good, the staff were friendly and helpful and the accommodation catered for different needs...easy access, secluded rooms and the odd friendly dog with ample facilities for exercise for all including children with bicycles.
