“Very disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013 via mobile

Really disappointing, staff were the only good thing, drinks were expensive, food (which we waited ages for) was poor, wish we had gone somewhere else. Big letdown.

“Eats, Shoots and Leaves”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

We made the decision the eat at The Keys based on Tripadvisor feedback and we had a family member that needed easy access and there are no steps into the restaurant. Plus the disabled parking bay is at the front door. Perfect!

We had to approach a waiter on entry to ask to be seated even though the restaurant was less than 5% full. We were seated in a very comfortable booth with views out onto the terrace. It was early evening, but, the crowd never arrived. We ordered from the menus delivered to the table, these were caked in food and finger marks and needed a good wipe down. We ordered from the Specials Menu. My wife and I both had fillet of sea bass with mash potato, it was fantastic, delicious. We were very pleasantly surprised.

The menu was full of spelling errors, filled of sea bass (fillet), crispy cuck (we assumed duck). It was clear the chef had a greater control in the kitchen than the editor of the specials menu!

The food arrived promptly, the staff were attentive during service and then were more interested in their own company rather than service. We needed to approach them to request the bill. This also arrived on a dirty, stainless steel tray that needed a good wipe with a damp cloth.

The food couldn't have been better, the service needs slight attention and the editor of the menu needs to avoid the spell check and read the menu, after cleaning them before service.

Thank you for choosing to dine with us recently and for your comments. We are embarrassed that spelling mistakes on our specials menu were not corrected before they were given to our customers. Since reading your review we have implemented a new system that should stop such simple mistakes from happening again. We passed your kind comments on to our chefs & have already been through staff training, paying attention to the points raised in your review. Thank you again for taking the time to review your visit and we look forward to seeing you again soon. The Keys.

“Do not be put off by the bad spelling”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

Yarm is a favourite place to visit when in England so we plumped for the best rated place for dinner. It was a Monday and a festival had just finished, so perhaps it was no surprise it was so quiet. That may have also been why they had run out of the listed glass of wine i wanted. There were only about six people in the whole place and the staff seemed very bored. We passed on the "cuck" filled pancakes with hoi sin sauce but did opt for the crispy "filled" of sea bass and were glad we had. The fish was good and the mash with spring onions very good. This place will not win any awards, but, for a monday evening supper out (as opposed to a dining experience) it was good.

“White Zinfandel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

Had a lovely bottle of White zinfandel in here on saturday.... It could have been a little cooler though. A few of the waitresses looked miserablle though which sort of put a downer on the atmosphere.

“Super food at very good prices”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I live in Yarm and we just popped in for tea on a Wednesday night after work. We ordered off the 2 course for £9.99 menu and were surprised at the portion and quality of food. We have eaten here many times but it seemed even better this time! The pâté and kofta starters were lovely and my main course of haddock was lush! It only had a thin coating of batter which to me is perfect and all the accompaniments were tasty. Service good and very friendly.
