“One of the nicest hotels in Wales.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2014

The Quay is one of the nicest hotels I know and one of my all time favourites. I have stayed there on several occasions and it has continued to maintain its very high standards throughout the years that I have been going there. The appearance of the public areas is impressive and the room we were given on our recent visit was even more so with wonderful views of the estuary and Conwy Castle. The staff are well trained and efficient while being friendly and helpful. The only area I would like to see a small improvement in is the buffet breakfast which is never great in any large hotel. That said I eagerly await my next visit to this marvellous hotel.

Stayed here for the second time for a mid week break. Hotel is nice and at £230 DBB rate per night its not cheap but not expensive either. We booked a suite with bay view and although the cup cake welcome, bay view, nice bed, clean room and sky sports was great the let down was no slippers to go to the spa - which was across an open court yard and the bathroom toiletries were poor i.e 2 shampoo's no conditioner - ( if i had known there would be no toiletries I would have brought some) whilst a bar of soap is handy I would expect bubble bath in a spa hotel. The only other gripe I had was that the bath takes forever to run. On the plus side the staff are outstanding as is the food - you must eat in the grill, the food is beautiful. The pool area is very clean and a lovely plus is the best steam room ever!
If it wasn't for the lack of the little bathroom touches then it would be an excellent but in a spa hotel you expect these things to be right. But we will go back in summer because all in all a great little get- away.

Room Tip: Have a room facing the bay

Dear Guest

Thank you for your valued feedback, following your recent mid-week break. Delighted to hear that this was your second visit and you enjoyed the Suite accommodation, stunning views and cleanliness.

I apologise for any disappointment caused regarding the lack of slippers and additional toiletries. It is a shame that you did not ask any of my staff for these items, as they would have been only too pleased to have provided them for you on request. We do usually provide shampoo, body wash, moisturiser cream, as well as soap and conditioner. Perhaps there had been an error by your room attendant when leaving the toiletries ready for your.

Good to hear that you will be back in the summer and I look forward to welcoming you on that occasion.

Best wishes

Overall a nice stay - but for the same money you can without a doubt get the 'finishing touches' you expect from a 5* hotel elsewhere. We're not fussy folk, but if you're paying a lot of money, these things should be spot on. Areas to be aware of: Dining - had to send back glasses, cups, and mini milk bottles as filthy at breakfast. Service very slow at breakfast - had to prompt for tea and coffee etc. At dinner time we weren't offered drinks with our meals, steaks were mixed up on wrong plates. Spa - jacuzzi cold, pipes / shower heads over jacuzzi dirty, changing rooms a little dirty (ladies), cold shower by pool (far too cold to use), and 1 picky thing - male treatments offered, but no mens mags in the 'relaxation room' :-). Rooms - water pressure in shower dreadful, difficult to get an agreeable temperature, ordered room service and food was cold, paid for double room but it was a twin with beds pushed together. Areas to be happy about - beautiful setting, rooms spacious and modern decor, on the most part the whole hotel clean and well presented, staff friendly, food delicious, spa lovely.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your valued feedback following your recent stay with us at the Quay Hotel. I was sorry to read of the disappointments encountered. I would clarify that we are in fact a 4 star hotel, although continuously endeavour to offer 5 start service and quality and in no way excuses the concerns raised. Regrettably you experienced a number of shortfalls and I have spoken with the relevant managers to help us improve and ensure the issues are rectified.

I would explain that the cold shower in the pool area is meant to be freezing cold, offering a quick “refresh” of the body when leaving the steam or sauna room before entering the main pool. Your observations regarding magazines for men is appreciated will be considered for the future.

I do apologise for the lack of water pressure in your room, we are aware of the problem in and are currently having the system reviewed so the matter can be resolved. I would also confirm that some of our rooms offer a “Zip & Link” bed system, providing flexibility for a twin or double bed. We do have specific double bedded rooms and would have been pleased to have moved you to one of these rooms if you had requested at the time.

Good to hear that you enjoyed our stunning location and wonderful views, spacious rooms, delicious food and friendly staff. I do hope the negatives did not mar your time with us and trust you will consider visiting us again in the future. When you have a date in mind, do contact me directly, so I can personally take care of your reservation.

I look forward to hearing from you shortly and welcoming you back to the Quay Hotel and Spa.

Best wishes

Booked on secret escapes completely blown away with room and view overlooking estuary Conway castle to the left. Room unbelievable, spacious, clean, separate lounge, balcony, queen size bed, large bathroom, beautifully clean. First time in hotel of this standard we have stayed at in the UK. Food fabulous. But what makes it even better is the staff - everyone friendly, welcoming, efficient, attentive whilst unobtrusive, the breakfast/restaurant staff are a credit to the hotel as are reception staff, the housekeeping staff although "invisible" keep the hotel spotless and the rooms clean and absolutely lovely. All in all a fabulous break I have no doubt we will return - they didn't even mind opening the safe after I couldn't remember the code which my husband thought was
hilarious! Thank you. Haven't rated the spa as didn't use it.

I booked a night at the hotel for my partners birthday treat in order to relax, use the spa facilities, have a treatment and eat good food.

The hotel lived up to all expectations. Sandra (the reception manager) absolutely made our stay from the moment we arrived. Our room was ready earlier than we expected and Sandra added balloons and cup cakes after finding out it was Pete's birthday.

She made sure we were totally happy with our lovely room and made time to speak to us every time we passed reception.

We both had facials in the spa and I have to say I do not think I have ever had better. I just wanted to stay all day.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who has a special occassion or just wants a relacing get away

Thanks to all the staff who made our stay special

We visited this hotel recently for a "Suite Sunday" deal. This was our first visit to the hotel and it certainly won't be the last. We arrived a little early but were shown to our suite overlooking Conway castle. The suite was spacious and comprised of 3 separate rooms, lounge, bedroom and bathroom and had the most amazing view over to Conway castle. We visited the bar area at lunchtime and also had the inclusive evening meal and breakfast. There was a small problem at Dinner regarding the sauce to go with our steaks ( for which there was an extra cost) but this was dealt with in an extremely friendly and efficient manner by the on duty restaurant manager (we think her name was Shona?)

All staff we encountered during our stay were extremely pleasant and polite and this certainly helps to make your stay at the hotel enjoyable.

The only thing I was a bit disappointed in was that the bathroom in the suite did not have a separate shower cubicle and that the bath was extremely small which was a shame because other than that it was perfect.

However, we would definitely return to this hotel and would not hesitate to recommend it to friends and family.

It is also worth paying extra for a room overlooking the castle as the view is simply stunning

Room Tip: Definitely book a room with a view over to Conway Castle if possible

Dear Guest

Thank you for your complimentary comments following your recent "Suite Sunday" stay with us. Delighted to know you enjoyed your time at the Quay and loved our views over to Conwy Castle.

Good to hear you found my staff pleasant, polite and efficient, and pleased to note that Shauna sorted out the sauce issue to your complete satisfaction.

Sorry to read of the disappointment regarding the bathroom, we do have rooms with separate shower cubicles so do be sure to request this facility when next booking.

Thank you for your kind recommendation and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.
