Description: Fanatasic restaurant slightly of the beaten track which was recommended by the manager of the The Sculthorpe Mill which you list (and is excellent as well. Ate there this weekend - owners are clearly trying to offer something a bit different that sits between the many "fine dining" estasblishments in North Norfolk and the cheaper pub grub. Really hits the spot and to be honest was far better than both the Globe and the Victoria (Well & Holkham) where I have dined recently. Please give the owners the recognition they deserve.

“Great meal out with friends.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

Visiting friends in Norfolk, and we went to The Hourglass for a meal. Great varied menu. Excellent service, friendly staff. The food was excellent. We all had fish of various sorts which was beautifully cooked. The pannacotta dessert was fabulous! Very nice, reasonably priced house red. Can't wait to go back!

“A stew with a disc of pastry on top is not a pie!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

When will chefs' serve a pie as it should be cooked ,together with the meat ,so that the shortcrust[not flaky] pastry starts to soak into the edges whilst staying crisp on the top. This was the only dissapointment with the meal here with otherwise tasty fresh veg and stew ,meaty with enough mushrooms . Very large portions and priced accordingly i think I would have been happier with a smaller portion then may have been able to have a dessert which looking at other diners looked very nice

“Yours not (h)ours.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

The exterior looks clean, fresh and inviting. When you walk inside it's as if one has walked into a different place. It isn't inviting with it's noisy laminate flooring and it has an almost clinical feel to it. There is quite a varied menu and the staff are very obliging and helpful. The starter size portions are very generous and well presented. The main course was also very good however, the dessert.....what a let down. Priced at well over £5 I opted for "Home made Apricot and Sultana Bread & Butter Pudding and custard" My husband had Spotted Dick and Custard. My pudding was exquisite but totally ruined by the vile custard. Likewise for my husband's pudding. The portions were meagre for the price too. We did complain about the custard saying that the pudding were advertised as home made and this is what attracted us to them so why ruin them with tinned custard? The lady said, "I don't think it's tinned, I think it's from a carton. "The problem is we don't have enough staff to cope with doing it all. "We cook everything from scratch where we can but the custard and the ice cream we don't do ourselves. "The ice cream is lovely though, you ought to have that next time!". Sorry, but there won't be a next time for us. Cutting corners (and portions) on a simple thing like custard which makes all the difference to a dessert when a lot of care had gone into making such a wonderful pudding too, what a shame. A case of spoiling the ship for a hap'outh of tar: definitely.

“A calorie fest of high quality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

There might be low cal options but I didn't see them, and in any case, didn't really care. The food is very nice with lots of options and varieties. It is pub food in the best sense of the term and the service is good too. The interior is very modern and well set out. The 'Eton Mess' dessert is really worth ending up with...

“Great pub food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2012

Enjoyed a family meal here whilst staying at nearby East Rudham. The interior is surprisingly modern, but the menu is traditional and quite a bit cheaper than other pubs in the area! Plenty of food choices to suit grandparents and younger children. The staff are very friendly and service was quick - everyone enjoyed their meal and we would definitely return if in the area again.
