“Home from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

From the moment we arrived we were treated like long lost friends, the owners have taken not only great love and attention to their home but also to their guests and we loved our stay there and chats with the owners! The rooms are immaculate and beautifully unique and very VERY comfortable. The building is full of charm with many points of interest. The breakfast is superb and served in a delightful bright dining room at a beautifully laid communal table where guests can exchange ideas for days out and experiences and with the valued help of Diane and Robert, our friendly hosts!
If you are thinking of coming here......don't think - book it now!!!!!!

We were only able to stay here for one night due to them being booked, wanted to stay longer. Well, this just needs to be experienced. Do yourself a favour and just simply book... the rest will follow,... but be prepared to be amazed and seduced in the nicest possible way.

Room Tip: any room will enchant you

Peaceful rural location, beautiful house and grounds. Extremely well kept, clean and fresh without being soul-less. Wonderful, relaxing breakfast with plenty of choice. If you want the hustle and bustle of city or business life this is not the place, but if you want to step out of that and just relax, I would not recommend anywhere more highly. It is an old house, but solid and with a warm, welcoming feel. The owners add to that friendly ambience without being at all intrusive, and there is a charming pleasance to breakfast which feels traditional and bright. This house while providing a business to the owners is clearly both a home and a passion for them, and they take pride in making a personal connection with those who come to stay, pick up the phone to book if you are able and begin your experience in a more personal way. Enjoy.

Room Tip: We stayed in the suite which has separate seating area from the bedroom. Excellent sleep.

First, let me state that it is the first time I have felt compelled enough to write a review.

Let me sum up quickly. Olde Moat House dates from the 15th Century. To put this into perspective the house is considerably older than the United States of America. It is a beautifully preserved, spotlessly clean guesthouse run by gracious hosts, who clearly take pride in their work and their house. The grounds are idyllic and this, coupled with the charm and character of the house, makes for a very unique experience.

I find trip advisor an amusing way of gauging what the people who wrote the reviews are like in real life. You should notice that 92% of the people who reviews this guest house rated it above satisfactory. You then get the 4 people who rate the place one star. These outliers are generally the type of people you don't want to be stuck beside at a dinner party.

To spend a couple of sentences addressing concerns. I found the host extremely accommodating. I informed them what time I would arrive at and they were there. The house was easy enough to find, there are white pillars outside. I was asked what I wanted for breakfast. We were seated for breakfast around a communal table, and the hosts joined us after breakfast for a coffee. If this is the sort of thing that horrifies you, I would stay somewhere else. I love the fact they some people said the decor was "tired"; it's a 600 year old house. The room was clean, the decor was in keeping with the character of the house and had clearly been chosen with care and maintained with large expense. Finally, my absolute favorite criticism was the guy who complains that the Tv in the room was not a flat screen. I'm not even going to dignify that one with an answer, but I think it is a sad reflection on the person’s value system when he correlates the comfort of his stay with the flatness of his television.

Anyway, I digress. I felt it was only right of me to register for this site to right a few wrongs. I am fortunate enough to earn a good wage and I have spent time in many luxury lodgings. With its character, tranquility and uniqueness ( they're building plenty of Ibis' , but they're not building any more of these) , Olde Moat House will stick out in my memory and I look forward to returning.

Alan

Comfortable, quiet and well run. Excellent breakfasts. Location is on a quiet road and pleasantly secluded yet only a few minutes from New Romney and other points of interest on Romney Marsh. Recommended.

Just back from a short break in the Romney Marsh. The Olde Moat House is located in a very quiet area in Ivychurch. We were received hospitably by Diana and her husband.
The room was very nice and richly decorated, the teddy bear populating the four-poster bed. Upon recommendation of the owners, we ate in the Bell Inn, a local restaurant-pub, and the food and the service were excellent. The big surprise was the breakfast which was ample and excellent. Four choices of freshly cut fruit were followed by a personalised choice of cooked breakfast. Toast with a choice of homemade marmalades completed the breakfast feast.
The owners displayed the perfect balance between hospitality and discreet service.

Just returned from a two night break at the Olde Moat House and can't recommend it highly enough. We stayed the the suite which had a charming bedroom with a very wide bed, beamed ceiling and large TV screen. The bathroom had a large walk in shower with powerful hot water and the additional room two chairs a table, another TV, coffee making facilities, etc. Many finishing touches such as a Champneys Sleep Spray by the bed, lots of books and magazines, a fresh rose on the soap, etc. Breakfasts were fantastic. Fresh fruit; healthy cooked meals; home-made preserves and scones. All in all can't be recommended highly enough. We had read some of the earlier reviews and felt we needed to correct them. This accommodation was full of character and friendly hosts. Tip - when locating the building look for the white painted posts bordering the driveway.

Room Tip: We stayed int he suite which was excellent. Note the room had low ceilings and wonky floor and wall...
