This Miller & Carter Stake House is housed in a restored Jacobean barn, part of the historic Hall Place Tudor mansion and its grade II listed gardens. So, we combined an afternoon walk around the gardens with a meal.
We had a burger and a steak, with beer and soft drinks. We were impressed with how the meat was cooked - the burger was well done but still juicy, and the staff offered a suggestion to get the stake medium, and it was indeed cooked very nicely. Our waitress was friendly, polite and helpful without being overbearing. The atmosphere was relaxed and non-pretentious.
Btw, the place IS BABY friendly, unlike what another reviewer wrote. We saw families with children and babies around us. The babies, in particular, were carried in the detached part of the pram and placed on the sofa. It makes sense not to be allowed to carry the whole pram (with the wheels etc.) inside the restaurant, as it would make the place packed and would spoil the experience for the rest of the dinners.
