“Small amount of food and very high price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

Had a very small meal with poor service and the prices were very high. The waitress did not tell us the complete menu and when the meals arrived two of us received a potato dish that we were not offered and which we certainly did not ask for. When we pointed this out the lady was not really interested. One of the glasses was badly stained by what I assume was the dishwasher. Will not be returning.

We arrived early for the beginning of two days of much needed pampering, having identified the Norton Park Spa deal as very competitive on paper compared with others on the spa break direct website. We chose to upgrade when booking to "one of the better rooms" in the Manor House, which was very comfortable - but did not have the wow factor I had expected. The bathroom was very narrow and could only fit one person at a time and to pass each other was like getting manoeuvring around people in the gangway of an aeroplane. The Manor House itself is a bit on the tired side and could do with some money being spent to maintain the 4 * vibe. That said the gardens around the Manor House and the entire land of the Hotel are lovely and there are plenty of walks to be discovered. For me, I like to receive a helpful welcome intro by the receptionist - this was not the case and think it would be a nice touch to give people that special welcome - first impressions are so important for me. The whole stay was peppered with good and disappointing moments: The treatments are a bit of a con - advertised and sold as 30min treatments, when in fact you are all done in 20mins and this is 20mins of mediocre pampering. For me, I am just beginning to get relaxed when the masseuse hits you with those dreaded words "ok, you're all done". The staff at the Spa are all very helpful and friendly and a credit to the hotel, but these treatments need to be the full 30mins, otherwise you feel short changed and only half relaxed when its all over with. The relaxation room was lacking in cups, sugar, milk to have a much needed tea post massage. There is a myriad of tea on display only no means to actually make a drink - that cheesed us off...and the chill out room is lovely but my girlfriend correctly pointed out that this area needs some scented candles burning and some soft soothing music to really capture the spa vibe - just constructive feedback and t is these small touches that make the difference at the end of the day. Lunch was very good and offered a generous spread...the same can be said for breakfast, which was right up there with one of the best full English Breakfasts I have had in a hotel (of any starring). However, sadly the evening meal was awful! Every course was a total let down and promised so much after such a good lunch. We weren't even that adventurous and opted for mushrooms on brioche to start which was the best of a bad trio of plates that evening, followed by fish and chips. The chips were soggy and oily and the fish was just rank - not the light and crisp batter that I had hoped and expected. I ordered a pudding to try and redeem the meal but it was a forgettable crumble. Thankfully I was only paying for the drinks as the food is included in the spa deal...but there is no way I would have paid for this meal in any restaurant...maybe chef was under par that night but the fish didn't even taste fresh, which made me wonder if this dish would ever get much better than this. So a total mixed bag of experiences for us...On the whole, we left feeling more relaxed than when we arrived and as we meandered our way on the long driveway off the premises we agreed that we had had a decent time...there were just some areas which need attention and tweaking to enhance the experience.

We have stayed at this hotel few times and never had cause to give any negative comments. It is in a lovely location, clean with lovely rooms, comfy bed and very good shower, even the complimentary toiletries are good! Excellent breakfast with lots of choices. We didn't eat in the restaurant this time but the food in the bar is very good. All of the staff are friendly and polite and a credit to the hotel. Like I said there are no negatives and we hope to return again soon.

Stayed there this weekend and it was lovely. Stayed in the hotel and not the manor house and the room was spacious and clean with plenty of space to sit down and chill as well as normal sleeping area. The staff were efficient and helpful and the grounds were superb, ideal for a stroll. The Wi-Fi is good if you need access to the internet and the morning breakfast was plentiful with a large variety to suite any appetite. Had a quick go in the pool, sauna and steam room but due to other commitments unable to try full spa use. Overall would highly recommend and will def be heading back to enjoy all it has to offer.

I've just returned from a 1 night spa stay with friends. The hotel was a very pleasant surprise; clean, quiet lovely rooms and spa. The food was good and the lovely South African lady that works in the restaurant is great. Had a treatment - fit for business the facilities are lovely though my massage was slightly disappointing. I said I like it firm and she was a little lack lustre to say the least. Would possibly return for a stay with my hubbie.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and I am delighted that overall you enjoyed your stay and hope to return in future. I have discussed, with the Spa , your comments regarding the pressure of the message and they informed me that you had booked a Fit for Business Ritual Ritual that includes exfoliation, cleanse, mask and a relaxing back massage. On a future visit it may be worth you having a back , shoulder and neck massage along with another 25 minute treatment. I hope we have the opportunity of welcoming you and your husband back to Norton Park

We stayed at this hotel last night. Modern rooms and decor. Nice comfy bed and pillows. Good lighting - loads of lamps and spotlights. Nice big power shower and the only criticism is that the ceiling above the shower needed to be repainted as the paint was peeling. It was surprising they haven't sorted that as it was really obvious and contrasting to the rest of the hotel room which was spotless. The staff were friendly, and the breakfast was delicious. Lots to choose from. Glad we stayed there!

My second visit - and it’s a most acceptable hotel with attentive staff and a welcoming ambience. Nice grounds and ample parking - a goodly walk away though on a wet night.

On this visit the food was much better and the room spacious and quite well equipped: whilst the bed was comfortable the bath and shower were a serious challenge. The bath was huge and almost too high-sided for me to get into: impossible for my wife. The shower (above the bath in a circular shower curtain) was fixed to the ceiling (very difficult to use in this fixed position) and the water would simply not run hot enough for comfort.

Although the room was designated “non-smoking” the number of cigarette remains outside the three windows suggested that it had been occupied by a family of chain smokers. Opening the window simply let in the dreadful smell suggesting that the hotel never considers opening the windows to check. This was unpleasant. Although the room appeared clean – drawing the curtains revealed that they had not been vacuumed/cleaned in many a month: another housekeeping issue.

Overall it’s a very nice place to stay and offered good value for money: it suffers however from lack of attention to detail as do most UK properties.

Room Tip: Check out the facilities if you have any mobility problems such as access to the bath/shower.
