“Hunters Hall Inn.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

We arrived at Hunters Hall on a very cold, snowy night to be met by a roaring fire and a very pleasant young lady who booked us in. Our bedroom was very nicely decorated, a huge bathroom with lashings of hot water and joy of joy a large mirror actually over the dressing table. The beds were dressed with white Indian cotton duvet covers etc and we can honestly say they were th most comfortable we have ever slept in in an hotel of any class. We had dinner in the bar sitting by the fire and chose of the two meals for 9.99. It was beautifully presented on a long plate, haddock in a light batter, a not too large portion of chips and a pot of mushy peas. The tartar sauce came in a little jug and was ample compared to the usual plastic wrapped variety. A good bottle of the House red went down a treat!!! Breakfast next morning was a mixed blessing. The food was excellent, with some unusual choices, wholemeal toast and a good selection on the buffet table, even the fussiest of eaters would have found something to tickle their tast buds, all served by a smiling waitress, nothing too much trouble. Now the downside. I know it was exceptionall cold but so was the dining room. We moved to a table near a radiator but it was little improvement. so didn't want to linger over a last coffee. We have stayed before and will most certainly do so again. Thankyou to all the staff.

Room Tip: The rooms are not in the Inn but across the yard so ask for one on the first floor, although they fa...

Accomodation was great - food was most enjoyable, and more than adequate. Despite staff being obviously very very busy, nothing was too much trouble. We came away with the feeling of being valued customers after just the one visit!!

Room Tip: They all looked good to me.

Having recently returned from the Hunters hall Inn for a three day stay I can only say what a delight. First off I would like to say how accommodating they were. Due to adverse weather conditions in January we had to cancel our trip but on request we were able to re book for the end of February, (not something one can usually do in a hotel) so 10 out of 10 for allowing us to do that. The staff were very friendly and polite, the food was very good in the evenings as was the price on their meal deals and the breakfast in the morning with being able to order virtually what you liked was excellent. I phoned up before arriving in the January and asked for a quiet room at the back having read some of the reviews, I was impressed that this was remembered for our arrival in February as I hadn't re requested this, we had a nice airy room overlooking the fields and car park and the bedroom was nicely decorated and the bed very comfortable indeed. What more can I say, the deal on the price we had made it a great winter break. We would certainly go back in the better weather to enjoy the scenery.

Room Tip: For a quiet room away from the road noise which I think would be busy in the summer months request a...

33 years ago I worked behind the bar at the Hunters, and since then the place has certainly been spruced up, without losing its fundamental character and - above all - the pervasive "Cotswold" smell of a wood fire, wet dogs and ancient masonry. However, in those days I was the only teenager working there, and today they all appear to be on Work Experience, without a seasoned hand to be seen anywhere.

Half of the Bar Menu items - including those on the blackboard - were unavailable; I was asked if I wished to have a wakeup call, which was then forgotten; and quality, service and hygiene at breakfast were all fairly poor. As far as I could tell, I was the only overnight resident, and after 8pm on a Sunday evening, the only guest anywhere on the premises

The accommodation - in a converted barn where my Mum went to Brownies in the late 1920's - is good, spacious, warm but looking increasingly dated. Toiletries were minimal

Overall, The Past can be a dangerous place to go on holiday, and my disappointment perhaps owes more to my own expectations rather than to what was actually provided; this is a wonderful establishment in a superb location, beset (quite literally) on all sides by deep deep history and local charm. I also still consider it to be the best in the area, surpassing e.g. the Bear at Rodborough, Egypt Mill in Nailsworth and Stonehouse Court in terms of authentic character.

But it is not perfect and - if Greene King could recruit an experienced Landlord - it could be far better. It was, once.

Room Tip: The rooms are fine; just don't expect any help

We arrived for lunch and expected a long wait for food as the place looked very busy, we found a table by the fire and ordered and had the food within 15 minutes to my surprise. I had a very good well cooked steak the way I asked it to be cooked. My wife and daughter enjoyed to two meals for under £10 and they both enjoyed them and thought they were very good value for money.

Very good old world charm, and friendly staff, yes we would go again.

We Stayed here for 2 nights on 7 feb 2012 in a double room for fantastic price. The room was really nice and very welcoming. The restaurant was very busy and the food very good and well priced. Had a fantastic breakfast both mornings well placed for sight seeing in the heart of Cotswolds. Well done.

I would like to gratulate this hotel for being one of the very few hotels in this country that offer excellent value combined with good quality [and we travel a lot] . The staff very friendly and efficient---dare i say well selected and trained? --The room we had was comfy and quiet [all rooms in an annxe] and the evening meal was very good pub food that was reasonably priced.[not intended as snobish comment]
The hotel is is in a rural location on a main road outside Tetbury and is fairly close to Slimbridge [the main purpose of our visit]----so fairly quiet after the rush hours.
I really think that many hotels in this country could learn a lesson from Hunters Hall Hotel. The hotel was full midweek in February and the restaurant/bar very busy' [special meal offers-attracting locals]
Only one slight criticism----should have been advised to book a table when checking in.

Anyway, well done to all at Hunters Hall!
