“My 40th Birthday Party - exceeded my expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013

Ok having decided I was going to have a party (rather than go away) I had to decide on the venue. I looked at 3 chain hotels in Bristol and the Alveston house hotel. What made me pick this hotel? Easy. Staff, actual hotel, bedrooms, widest choice of buffet (and the cheapest) and the fact that I would not share my special birthday with any one else ie only one function room - carriages restaurant. Over the weeks leading up to my party, I visited the hotel 3 times and emailed /rang several times and I never felt like I was being any trouble! We turned up on the day, mid afternoon, and set to work decorating the tables with candles (in large glass hurricane lamps) and sprinkles. Ballons provided by partyfromabox- recommended by hotel - absolutely delighted by them. When everything was in place, the room looked absolutely wonderful. Buffet was fantastic - everyone kept saying how lovely it was. So much food and all very fresh. Cheese and biscuit platter amazing! Had DJ venue recommended and he was great (I emailed him before with playlist etc) very flexible/accommodating throughout the night. Staff also great - all of them. If I have to make a tiny criticism I would say rooms on the pricey side. We paid £145 for deluxe with breakfast BUT worth it. Cost for normal double with breakfast £120 and this put some guests off staying. Plenty of free parking though. Breakfast served early - before 9.30. Fully appreciate they have to get room ready for next function or Sunday lunches. All in all I had a fantastic night and would not hesitate to recommend them or use them again. Thanks to everyone at the Alveston house hotel for making my party so special.

Room Tip: Splash out and have a deluxe room!

We were looking for somewhere to stay while visiting friends. This hotel exceeded olur expectations. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly.

This will be where we stay in future when re-visiting our friends.

Having not stayed here for a couple of years it was a pleasant surprise to find it had improved on the already above average standard I remember. Reception were very helpful when booking for several colleagues and ensuring the bill would fit the expenses policy. Staff super friendly on arrival and dinner was excellent, attentive and prompt service at all times. Slept well, room spot less and shower room possibly upgraded since the last visit. Breakfast was as good as dinner, tasty smoked haddock and poached eggs. The team were happy for me to use the lounge as a workstation for the morning as the M4 back to London was closed for the morning.
Close to the M5/M4, ample parking-thoroughly recommended.

I needed to find suitable accommodation for our group of around 30 people. We needed reasonably priced rooms - mix of doubles and singles - plus a meeting room. Additionally we required a separate dining room for our Society's Gala Dinner, hosted by our patron Terry Waite CBE. All of this was provided for us at Alveston House Hotel. But it was not just 'provided,' it was painstakingly tailored to our every need with attention to detail and excellence. We were comfortable, extremely well fed, and we were made so very welcome by the friendly, helpful and efficient staff. I have no reservations whatever in warmly recommending Alveston House Hotel.

We have just stayed in this hotel, we were invited to a family Golden Wedding celebration. We arrived early for checking in, but we had rang and asked if it would be possible to do so as the celebration was to start at what would be normal checking in time we wanted to freshen up after quite a long journey, we were told that it would not be a problem. We actually arrived mid day, but out room was ready, and we were able to freshen up at our leisure.

The hotel was very clean and the décor was very nice, the staff were very nice and helpful, but my main praise must go to the food, we had a very good meal with out family celebration, really could not be faulted, and the following morning the breakfast was lovely, so nice to be served by lovely friendly staff a freshly cooked breakfast, so many places seem to go for the impersonal ' Buffet ' breakfast so it made a very nice change. We would not hesitate to book here again

An excellent hotel all round. All staff were very welcoming and helpful throughout. Hotel itself was most comfortable with a well sized superior twin room, warm and windows that open- not always a feature in these H & S days. Quiet. notwithstanding its closeness to the A38;acoustics were excellent. During our stay there was a large wedding reception with DJ entertainment, but we heard not a sound, not even the deep base notes which usually make many hotels throb.

The breakfasts and dinners were very good by both choice and cuisine standards and the small adjacent bar well stocked. One improvement would be to have artisan draught beers in addition to the current similar bottled beers.

And the gardens were delightful.

All in all, a most memorable and delightful three nights spell and one we shall be repeating when next in the Bristol area.

Room Tip: Pay a little more for the superior rooms, but the other rooms also looked good and comfortable

Now that our honeymoon is over and work has again taken over its time for me to write my review of our wedding venue, it's easy to be critical but it's much harder to write a review when every thing was so fantastic. From the moment we arrived on the Friday to the minute we left on the Sunday it was a weekend to remember. If what you require from your wedding is a relaxing time when all the worries normally associated with your special day are taken care of then this is the place for you. The hotel has that certain something , the food was excellent (and we had some special requirements that were well taken care of) with what was a first for me at a wedding every meal was hot ... A silly thing I know but how often does the last table served get the the same standard as the first. The staff were wonderful it's again a small thing but they all seemed to enjoy working there, I have always been of the impression that if the work force are happy then the customers will be ( maybe it's because I've worked for John Lewis for so long) . All the rooms are of a very good standard , some are bigger than others but this is only to be expected. The weekend package was very good value, we did upgrade the drinks and food package from the basic offer but they do give you plenty of choices and again the value was excellent ( the lamb shank was great) . They have a private garden which is a lovely little spot for your photos what more could you want. I could go on about the evening buffet, the breakfast etc etc but all I can say is give them a call or a visit its worth it. Again all I can say is thank you Alveston House and all you did to make our weekend so special. We will see you on our anniversary.
