“Made so very welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

Touring the area on a very wet day we arrived quite late at the March Bank Hotel, purely by chance, but to a very warm welcome. A pot of tea appeared and we were shown to our 4- poster bedroom. How lovely, comfy bed and super decor. A nice hot bath (perhaps our only grumble was there was no shower) and we were ready for a delicious evening meal. Very careful service and attention. The smoked salmon omlette for breakfast was done to perfection and set me up well for the day ahead, as did the full scottish for my husband. Thoughtfully the bay window of our room had TWO armchairs and it was difficult to stir our selves out of these comfy chairs and away from the view. The whole family were so pleasant, professional yet very warm and efficient. A great find.

Room Tip: Front 4 - poster bed room on first floor

I have never stayed overnight but have eaten here regularly and I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal, be it evening meals or Sunday Lunch.

I am a massive lover of a good steak and last night was the first time I have eaten one at the Marchbank as the specials board is just so 'special'- with a great variety.

Food is locally sourced and homemade and the quality is never substituted for quantity.

One thing mentioned in other reviews- the vegetables are plentiful and PERFECTLY cooked- not over boiled and soggy.

Couldn't recommend dining here highly enough- I might get to stay soon- even if just to sample breakfast!

Staff was nice and helpful, food was very good, rooms tastefully decorated, good showers and friendly service. Ideal for a big family gathering.

Room Tip: I would not stay in the bothy it is not better than inside rooms.

We celebrated our civil partnership at the Marchbank, and had the most wonderful time. Many of our family member stayed at the Marchbank - they also had a super time; Claire and Richard dealt with everyone's requests brilliantly. The evening meal was perfect and very relaxed, and Claire provided a beautiful set of flowers. THANK YOU, and we will definitely stay again - we highly recommend the Marchbank.

We booked our wedding party at the March Bank hotel and we had the most amazing weekend ever!!!!! Our whole experience was perfect from start to finish. Nothing was too much trouble for Richard and Claire....Richard even loaned his own cuff links to one of our guests! We arrived on Friday afternoon and were shown to our room "the bothy" a beautiful room, nicely decorated and set away from the main hotel, which was ideal for us as the wedding couple. The food was lovely, so nice in fact that we chose to eat at the hotel every evening. The meal that Richard prepared for our wedding day was equally as good and all of the guests commented on the quality of the meal. The private room we were given for our party was completely perfect. We had a candle lit dinner and the evening was exactly as we had imagined it would be! We can't thank everyone at the March Bank enough for making our wedding day so special. We have to agree with our wedding guests, we could not have chosen anywhere better!!!!

We've returned again on our trip to Kelso Races and found the ambience and food as good as ever. Very good value, a fun host and pleasant surroundings. The breakfast is especially delicious, individually cooked to order with wonderful choice - we shall be back.

Room Tip: The two front rooms are very good, facing the main road but set a long way back
