“Mixed Feelings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

We found several pluses to Churston Court and a few minuses too. Decoration of this 12c building is olde English and slightly quirky. The young staff are great - welcoming, friendly and helpful. We ate in both the restaurant and bar and in both the food was good ,well presented and delicious. Our room at the front of the building was quiet and nicely decorated with crisp bedding - sadly the bed was old and spongy with lumpy flat pillows, also the radiator was set on 1 and a chill enveloped us as the door was opened ,we cranked it up to 6 and 36 hours later was toasty - this was nothing compared to the Siberian conditions in the en suite bathroom ( it has 2 outside walls ) and NO heating except a small wall hung heater that only managed to warm the area directly in front of it - making the loo seat glacial! Another couple of disappointments the TV had such poor reception it pixelated and WiFi only seemed available downstairs.

Just right for our family's weekend whilst visiting Father, Grandfather and now Great Grandfather for his 94th birthday.
Hotel provided right type of family accommodation, as expected with an excellent breakfast and a great selection of evening meals.
Still our first choice when visiting Torbay area.

Room Tip: Because of the hotel's location all the room's afford a quiet good view. Remembering rooms...

What an amazing hotel......stayed with my husband on our wedding anniversary. Staff were lovely & helpful, food was fantastic. The room was just perfect, cosy & warm. Plenty hot water in the small but adequate bathroom. A big thankyou to all at Churston Court.......hope to return.

Delightful old world charm, coupled with excellent food and warm and friendly service. Made for an excellent weekend. We found not only the staff excellent, but it is obviously a place very popular with locals, and they were extrremely friendly, and added to the experience.

For what it was, we could not fault it!

Room Tip: We had two rooms, both at the front, and both excellent

Firstly we wanted to say thank you for an amazing night and a fantastic breakfast, your staff are very friendly and welcoming and can never do enough to please you, your rooms are exquisite and very clean and tidy with all the latest mod cons, plus they are very warm and decorated beautifully,it was very interesting read the brief history in your welcome pack as well,I do have however a very small gripe,we were eating in brixham at the poopdeck and decided to use your taxi company printed in your welcome pack, you can imagine our horror when five seconds into the phone conversation they hung up on us?????thankfully another company were more than happy to take and pick us up so the night was perfect.
Thank you once again for a memorable 2nd wedding anniversary and I'm hoping it may become an annual thing for us :)

After a day trip to snowy dartmoor with the family we decided to stop off for a drink at the churston court. I have never been there before but I could not belive what a hidden treasure it really is! With it's old wooden beams and historic settings it really was a beautiful place.
We sat in the bar which was busy with people of all different ages next to the roaring fire which was a gem considering it was bitterly cold outside. After 20 mins food was coming out and smelling delicious so we decided to stay for dinner as well. When ordering food at the bar we were greeted by a lovely smiley staff who were very chatty and polite. I had the fillet of salmon with fresh vegetables whilst the rest of the family went for fish and chips, monkfish curry and duck legs. The food was AMAZING! which was brought out prompt by competent staff.

I would definetly recommend and come again!! This is a treasure in beautiful setting and everybody should know about it!

After returning here for our fourth year in a row, I have to say that yet again both myself and my partner had an absolutely relaxing, enjoyable time. We have never experienced anything that the previous bad reviews have mentioned and this time around wasn't any different. The staff were welcoming, friendly and highly professional. Yes, they might have a drink in the bar after a shift but surely they are allowed to relax. The bar area is so cosy. A perfect place to sit and relax with with a drink. The locals are friendly too. The food here is exceptional value for money. We have never had a bad meal or snack at Churston. The meal in the restaurant was beautiful. After ordering, the waiter brings you a small board of hot bread rolls with a choice of spreads then followed by a little treat from the chef. The restaurant is lit by candles which help set the mood of the old historical building. The room we stayed in has been the largest room that we have slept in to date. The bed was huge and very very comfortable and as always the bathroom was clean and relaxing (with its walk-in shower and roll top bath). The breakfasts are very enjoyable to. You don't have to have the breakfast combination on the menu. You can mix it up and the chef is always accommodating. I highly recommend Churston Court, whether you're looking for a relaxing weekend or you wish to go sightseeing. Give this magical get a away a go.
