“Tremendous house”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

Not the greatest of days for weather. A real chill to the air but fortunately, the rain held off. The house is lovely. The Legh family lived here until 1943. I remember learning to drive in the grounds when the house was almost deserted and owned by Stockport Borough. Now the National Trust has taken it over, it's almost back to its former glory.

Went to Buxton afterwards - hmmm......faded glory.

“Nice family day out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

In a beautiful countryside setting, but close to Manchester and Stockport, Lyme Park is well worth a visit. The house, is well worth a visit.
The gardens are perfect for the more senior citizens, or for the kids to explore. There is a large play area for the kids with plenty to keep them occupied, also a nice cafe and a smaller snack bar. A short walk will take you away from the crowds into peace and quiet, open countryside where you can see deer wandering around, roe and red deer, there are a few white deer also. Disley is very close, where the excellent Ram's Head serves excellent food. I walked from Bollington, had my picnic near Mr Darcy, and headed back. Recommended. You pay £7, (?), if you wish to tour the house.

“Wonderful day out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

Went on bank holiday Monday and it was very busy, but it was such a fabulous day. We started out going for a walk on the hills and around and then stopped for an ice cream. Everyone enjoyed their ice cream! Then we took the kids to what my in laws called the adventure playground. I would just call it an AMAZING playground, but anyway! My kids had so much fun playing in there. Someone else expressed this--but we were there way longer than we thought we would be since we were having so much fun! Just and FYI-there is a 5 pound entry fee and then if you want to go in the house I believe it's extra.

“Gardens are lovely house was closed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

We are NT members and on holiday in Chesterfield! We drove to Buxton and realised Lyme Park was not far away. We were disappointed that the house is closed on a Wednesday and Thursday. It was a Wednesday!! However the gardens and orangery which we probably wouldn't have walked round if the house had been open were fantastic! Beautifully kept with plenty of volunteer gardeners. There was a shuttle bus to take you to the house from the car park. The reflection lake was great with Darcy reflecting in it! Definitely worth a visit.

“Nice pad!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

Worth a visit if you love Pride and Prejudice or old houses. The house is beautiful. The guides are friendly and helpful. We all dressed up in the old clothes and looked around and it made it come alive and the children found that more fun and got lots of attention. Something they wont forget i think. It did annoy me that they charged £5 for parking on top of getting into the house.
