We booked this hotel for a reunion of old friends and do to some walking to the nearby beauty spots. The location is perfect, helped by some fantastic weather for the time of year.
The Lister Arms has recently changed ownership so I don't know what, if any, impact this will have on the running of the hotel. We had a problem on our first night. The room was far too hot, even with the heating off and because the hotel had allowed some children to sleep by themselves in the room next to us (parents right at the other end). In the end I had to visit their room in the wee small hours to tell them to pack the noise in. We were able to change rooms the next morning and the staff swapped our bags whilst we went out for the day. In that respect they were very helpful, but they do need to sort out the heating though. The rooms were basic, but well furnished, with small pleasant en-suite bathrooms.
We ate there both nights and found the meals to be vairable. The starters were excellent but the main meals a little hit-and-miss with the overcooked vegetables being the most disappointing. The full-English breakfasts were lovely.
The range of beers was good with a very convivial atmosphere in the bar. It was quite wierd; we tried the other pub in town (well you have to, don't you!) - the Buck - and found that to be a totally different place; one for the local youths and riff-raff (I don't wish to sound snobbish, but that really was the feeling the place gave off), so if you want some accommodation in Malham I'd certainly recommend the Lister Arms. Just don't park your car under the trees where the rooks nest!
