Nov 5, 2007 | Trip type: Friends getaway

We booked this hotel for a reunion of old friends and do to some walking to the nearby beauty spots. The location is perfect, helped by some fantastic weather for the time of year.

The Lister Arms has recently changed ownership so I don't know what, if any, impact this will have on the running of the hotel. We had a problem on our first night. The room was far too hot, even with the heating off and because the hotel had allowed some children to sleep by themselves in the room next to us (parents right at the other end). In the end I had to visit their room in the wee small hours to tell them to pack the noise in. We were able to change rooms the next morning and the staff swapped our bags whilst we went out for the day. In that respect they were very helpful, but they do need to sort out the heating though. The rooms were basic, but well furnished, with small pleasant en-suite bathrooms.

We ate there both nights and found the meals to be vairable. The starters were excellent but the main meals a little hit-and-miss with the overcooked vegetables being the most disappointing. The full-English breakfasts were lovely.

The range of beers was good with a very convivial atmosphere in the bar. It was quite wierd; we tried the other pub in town (well you have to, don't you!) - the Buck - and found that to be a totally different place; one for the local youths and riff-raff (I don't wish to sound snobbish, but that really was the feeling the place gave off), so if you want some accommodation in Malham I'd certainly recommend the Lister Arms. Just don't park your car under the trees where the rooks nest!

We stayed here for 2 nightsin October the pub/ hotel is an excellent base for walking in the Malham area no need to
move the car lots of walks start in the village centre
The room was very comfortable ,well decorated and appointed the only disappointment was no bath only a shower aftera hard days walking
Our hosts were very friendly and helpful he food terrific ,huge breakfast included in the price and a wide range of quality "pub food" for dinner with the chance to lounge on comfortable sofas in the residents dining room after dinner
The whole stay was relaxing and comfortable we will be back!

Stayed for two nights when travelling throught the dales on our summer holidays. The rooms were warm ,spacious and beautifully decorated. Shower excellent. All staff were pleasant and very helpful. Breakfast and evening meals delicious. A table was automatically reserved for us each night for our evening meals, which was just a well as the hotel was very popular. Couldn't fault a thing and will definitely return!

First visited in February 2006 with my husband. Loved the place. The surrounding area was lovely even at this time of year - we had some fabulous walks. Enjoyed the place so much we visited again in June along with my nephew and his wife, (who live in London and are real globetrotters) and our brother in law and they all loved it. Looking to going again shortly.
