This is one of the last cave painting sites that you can still visit. The art is astonishing. The walk experience is relatively easy with a steep flight of stairs at start. Getting there off the Autoroute takes a little over a half hour but is well marked and a pretty drive in spring. We arrived without reservations but had no problem getting a tour. At Eyzies de Tayac we were in line an hour in advance but got shut out. Couple this cave with the Lascaux replica and you will have an unforgettable dose of how brilliant our really ancient forebears could be.
