“Rain in the Rainforest? Who knew”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2014

Stayed here and paid extra to get the volcano view. In theory, that would be great if it didn't rain the entire time we were there. Rooms were pretty basic but fine...it's Costa Rica remember. The power went out during the middle of the night so we didn't have A/C.

We had dinner at the excellent restaurant on site and breakfast was also very good the next morning,

Everyone talks about the road coming in and all I can say is that it is a disaster. We rented a bulletproof Suzuki 4x4 so thankfully it didn't fall apart but you need to go slow and dodge the big holes. At the least, it's good for a story.

The views are amazing, the rooms are, well, not what we expected from all the reviews here. They shopped at the "uncomfortable store" and ordered premium line… like sleeping on wood, the pillows were lumpy and hard. Don't think you are going to sleep past sunrise - the roosters take care of that… The food is really expensive at the hotel, and there was a large family staying there that let all the kids overrun the hot tub. The pool is freezing cold - The pool bar was never open the four days we stayed there. The "road" is poor at best. Sounds like a slam fest I know, just trying to be honest here. I don't expect the Ritz for the price, but large spiders in the tub, and just a general feeling of unclean was not that nice. I would look for another place on the LaFortuna side of the volcano. One last thing to note, they are a bit pushy about booking specific tours (No doubt they are getting kick backs from Sky tours). On the good side, Excellent coffee for breakfast, but served in little cups and they act like your asking for to much for a few refills…. need I say more - Would not stay here again, the only reason for the 2 stars is the view.

Room Tip: Perhaps a junior suite? Rooms 15 & 16 had great views - but that's it...

The 20 minute drive on the dirt "road" (I use the term loosely) is definitely rough but we felt it was worth it for the magnificent views at the end. We were extremely lucky and had two clear days to have perfect views of Arenal Volcano from our junior suite (and also from the public terrace by the beautiful infinity pool) but we heard there are many days when you can't see the volcano at all because of the clouds/rain. Comfortable, good sized, air conditioned room and a wonderful and helpful staff. We especially loved our waiters at the restaurant!

Room Tip: Definitely worth the upgrade to get a junior suite with views of the volcano.

Horrible rain and wind during our stay, but can't fault the accommodations. Staff was helpful in directing us to the EcoZoo which was amazing. Room was as advertised, A/C kept it cool. You absolutely need 4-wheel drive to get there.

Stayed at the Linda vista with my wife and 9 year-old daughter, and we loved it. We all enjoyed the infinity pool, from which we could enjoy views of both Arenal volcano and Lake Arenal. Really, there were excellent views from just about anywhere on the grounds, especially from the large balcony of our room. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the whole place had a very relaxed feel to it.

While the restaurant was perhaps just ok, overall, of all the places we stayed in Costa Rica, this is the one I would return to above the others.

We loved this hotel. The staff was great and the views are spectacular. We mostly just hung out at the hotel, watched the birds (amazing!) and saw the world transforming around us as the weather changed. The rooms are little rustic but very clean. The hotel is very close to the entrance of the National park and a short walk to the Eco Zoo (awesome!) and the Butterfly garden which we heard was great but didn't have time to visit.

We booked online. We were in room 4.

The room:
Cable with lots of channels. Double bed and twin bed. Ceiling fan with no air condition. Bathroom had hot water. Closet with hangers and a safe large enough for a laptop that doesn't cost any extra to use. Room fours window had a direct view of Arenal Volcano.

Dining:
Breakfast was okay. Cereal, toast, fruit with optional eggs, ham, gallo pinto.

The grounds:
Quite pretty, the pool was nice and had a great view of the lake.

Getting there:
The turn off for the hotel is about 10-15 minutes past the town of La Fortuna and once you turn on the dirt road, it is another 15 to 30 minutes. depending on how fast you drive. It is a bumpy, dirt road.

Room Tip: Drive in during the day. 4x4 isn't required but is nice. The driveway up is a little steep.
