“Great Private Resort High in the Mountains”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2014

The hotel was an amazing Gem.

ROOMS: beds were large enough, and overall rooms were fairly tidy. A bit outdated but we weren't looking for 5 star quality so fit my expectations. Bathrooms were clean and only had showers (no tub) with a curtain separating you from the toilet. I believe each room had a balcony and definitely expect some bugs bc of its locale.

TRANSPORTATION: I was concerned with some of the reviews that our little car might not make it up the hills on those unpaved roads, but surprisingly did fine. As many others have mentioned, it takes a little bit off the main road to get there, so having your own car is ideal, especially if you plan to do excursions, etc. Buses that pick you up for most activities will charge an additional $80 per person to pick you up, so that would have paid the cost of your rental. But we met some women from the Midwest and they mentioned they have a shuttle that takes people to La Fortuna in the morning and returns in the early afternoon. Another option for those without a rental.

LOCATION/VIEWS: It's far off the beaten path, but the views are Spectacular! because of how remote it is and high in the mountains, the views were amazing! worth the extra time it took to get back to the resort.

STAFF: Awesome. We loved Ana, who was at the front desk. She was extremely accommodating and spoke relatively perfect english to compensate for our terrible spanish. She recommended a few excursions, including the "Sky River Drift" which was right down the street from the hotel. Amazingly fun adventure for just $54 USD. I also liked our bartender Ronny.

FOOD / DRINKS: Food was very good at the restaurant. The breakfast that was included, consisted of just fruits, cereal, Juice, coffee and toast. You can pay extra for Eggs and Ham but if you just need a quick bite, this should suffice.

THINGS TO DO: Don't expect this resort to be popping past 10PM. Bar closes around then, and usually there's no-one else there. You would have to drive into town if you wanted something more exciting. This portion of our vacation was focused on adventures and this place provided that bc it was close to most but like I mentioned, will require a car. We did the Canyoneering (Repelling adventure), Sky Trek (Ziplining), Sky River Drift (Ziplining, Sky Fall, and Tubing) which are all highly recommends. We also stopped at La Fortuna Falls (which was sort of on the way) and visited Tabacon (which was an amazing hot spring with an incredible buffet). There's a free hot spring across from tabacon and about 30 min away from a cool swimming spot the local ticos go to which has a rope swing. Unfortuantely we didn't find out about that till it was too late, but would be must do's the next time we visit.

Overall, loved the hotel and its people. My only complaint was that the office was only open from 7AM-10PM, so if you wanted to check out early, you cant. I would recommend checking out the night before, its a lesson learned, but completely our fault. Would love to come back again, this place was wonderful! And if you do, tell Ana we said hello!

The pictures of the view of Arenal sold me on this place. Beautiful setting with incredible lake and volcano views. Great service, very friendly folks, A very nice pool and hottub. Rooms are very big but lack comfortable seating but you don't spend much time in the room. Food is pretty good at the restaurant but the menu selection is lacking a bit. Close to el castillo, la furtuna, tabacon springs, etc. Hotel is up bumpy dirt road but ok if you go slow or have a 4x4. Go to sky trek next door for extreme zip line but skip the 3 hour rainforest and hanging bridges tour (death hike) they will try to sell you. Not worth it better hanging bridges elsewhere. Be prepared for rainy weather year round. The volcano was only visible for 1.5 days and over the 6 we were there. Go to Tabacon springs. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It's expensive for a day pass but totally worth it. Also "the springs" resort was very nice and have hot springs as well.

Room Tip: Make sure you book early and request a room up the hill closer to the pool. It was a little hike for...

We spent Two very comfortable nights here. The hotel is situated on a hill looking across to the volcano. We had a suite with patio doors opening onto the garden with views of the lake and the garden. The staff are pleasant and helpful and the food in the restaurant is very good. We couldn't get wi- fi in our room but reception was good in the public areas of the hotel. It is very isolated and hard to find. It would be helpful if detailed directions were given on the website and if the hotel had a sign where you turn off Route 142. Without GPS it is very hard to find, we had to ask three people before we got good directions.

Room Tip: Ask for suite 27, it has the best views.

Spent 2 days in a large and comfortable junior suite (stunning views of volcano Arenal) at this quiet, relaxing and well run place.
Located up on a hill this resort provides great views of both volcano and lake Arenal and surrounding forests- far away from busy La Fortuna.
For getting there 4WD- car is helpful, but not essential. Volcano Arenal N.P. and Sky Tram/Treck close by (10 resp. 5min by car)
Restaurant quite good, some waiters behave a little bit stranded- maybe due to their little knowledge of english.
Pool with phantastic volcano-views as well, but can get a little bit noisy when families are around ;-).
Recommended!

Room Tip: Junior Suites have excellent views of volcano Arenal- well worth spending a couple of $$ more

This hotel is in a beautiful location offering panoramic views. The rooms are large & simply furnished but the bed was very uncomfortable. The restaurant food is quite good. The hotel is quite a long way up a track so you are a little bit captured for their restaurant as it is rather a long way to keep travelling up and down the poor track to eat somewhere else in the evenings. The staff were friendly and helpful. Over-all a very good 4 night stay at this hotel.

We hadn't planned too far ahead on this leg of our trip, so we were feel really fortunate that we found the Linda Vista. It's a bit of an adventure getting here, but we're on a motorcycle built for that kind of thing so it was pretty easy. Cabs will come out here, and if you have your own car you'll just need some patience to get down the pothole road the 7km to the hotel.

But you'll be rewarded with a room on the hill with a panoramic view of the SW side of the volcano from the glass wall of your room (we stayed in the Jr.) and open your door to let the air blow through and a great view of the lake, valleys and hills to the south. Staying on this side of the volcano gives you a view of both the volcano and lake.

We've actually seen more wildlife and birds around the hotel than we did on our tours of the Park, we even saw an ant eater on a day ride just west of the hotel.

The breakfast is OK and could use a bit of an improvement, but the rest food very good and the infinity pool at sunset is great. Very affordable too compared to the resorts on the other side of the volcano. Tour operators will come out to pick you up from here (for less than a cab would). Skip the volcano tour and walk it yourself, we loved guided the hanging bridges tour though.

A relaxing stay well off the beaten path. The view of the volcano and the lake are well worth the drive. The on site restaurant had wonderful food and we enjoyed the hot tub. The grounds are right near the Sky Trek/Zip Lining.

Room Tip: Be prepared to drive down a long drive which can be adventurous in the dark.
