“Black Forest delight”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

I have titled this review the same as the recent one by Johng39benfleet as we were on the same driving tour and I am happy to confirm what he has said.

We were entertained to a big group dinner in a charming panelled room and the staff coped very well.

The breakfast buffet has a room to itself - it takes a while to suss out all that is there (wish I'd had more time but we were on an early start)!

Our room was big and well appointed. My only criticism would be a plus for some: the bathroom was a wet room style so very easy access but not particularly pleasant. The extractor fan was dusty which detracted a bit from the bathroom too but on the plus side there was a second, separate toilet.

Perfect for a relaxing weekend of spa, wine and hiking in the middle of the black forest! Very friendly staff and lovely rooms. The spa area can be a little too small if the hotel if fully booked. Now that they are planning to double the number of rooms, one can hope that they increase the pool and the saunas! However we can recommend this very nice hotel!

Arrived at the Hotel Ritter after 6 hours of driving and what a wonderful place. It has a fantastic restaurant and friendly staff, but how much better does it get than the owner walking through the reception and shaking your hand. The rooms are fantastic also, comfortable beds, fantastic shower and in a lovely little village in the Black Forest.

What can I say about breakfast other than fantastic. What do you want, you can have it and then you will not need to eat until dinner time. I cannot compliment this hotel highly enough, one of the best I have stayed in for the price.

If you need a place to stay in the Black Forest, don't look anywhere else.

Room Tip: Stayed in 46 overlooking courtyard, but not aware of any complaints from the other 20 that stayed in...

I have stayed at this hotel for about 80 nights on business. It is very very good. The rooms are furnished nicely, the hotel staff is amazingly friendly and helpfull, the spa is very good, the free tea / fresh fruits and reading library add a nice tough. The different restaurants are excellent as well and the breakfast is world class. Currently they are building yet another extension, so the hotel will get even better in the future!

Room Tip: The hotel is made up of many different buildings, so choose wisely.

I had booked the Hotel Ritter in April for their 'culinary journey' for a stay in October to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Booking was straightforward, and I was kept informed about some developments (like the beginning of extension work).
The location of the hotel is in the beautiful village of Durbach in the foothills of the Black Forest. Well known for its wine, which is truly excellent (Riesling)
The stay was just excellent. The culinary tour comprises of three evening meals in each of the three hotel restaurants. The first evening was in the rustic 'Ritterkeller', where we were served a kind of Ploughmans with a pumpkin soup (really good!) for my wife and a 'Zwiebelkuchen' (onion cake) for me as a starter. Some lovely local wine to go with that.
The next day we celebrated our anniversary in the 'Wilder Ritter' restaurant. Service and food was outstanding and the wines that came with each course were well selected. The last evening we spent in the 'Ritterstube' and the food was also very good. In fact it was so much that we could not finish our main course, which pained me, as it was very good!
The hotel itself is refreshingly modern, but still has a cosy feel about it. The spa facilities were very good. We spent one day just relaxing in the sauna, relaxing room or the library, with a massage and algae pack in between.
Breakfast was included and was a buffet, which covered everything what one could wish from a breakfast. Coffee was good.
I suppose, the only drawback was the fact that work has started on the extension of the hotel, but it did not really interfere with our stay.
All in all I can recommend this kind of package, if you love good food and good wine in a pleasant setting. It does not come cheap, but I felt I got what I paid for and did not feel cheated.
I wouldn't mind coming back, once all the work has been completed and maybe in a time when the weather is warmer. (Having said this, a week after our stay temperatures rose to 25C in that area! We were just unlucky)

Room Tip: From what I saw all the rooms seem to be well placed. The village itself is very quiet. Maybe a room...

This rustic hotel is a modern surprise, loved the decor of the lobby, rooms and spa! Nicely furnished rooms, indoor pool and friendly service. Close to the wineries! Would definitely stay again! Best Breakfast Buffet during our 12 Day Germany Vacation!

It has not been my wish to travel to Germany at this time of the year since I do not like the cold weather. However, business sometimes doesn't leave you a choice. This hotel is nicely located in the 'Badische' wine yard area of southern Germany, well known to many foreigners. It is advisable to have a car when travelling from airport to the village of Durbach because with public transport it might be difficult and by taxi it will cost a bomb.
Check-in was fast and efficient, they even managed to get me a smoking room, which is meanwhile rare in Germany. The room was big enough, bed was comfortable, bathroom well equipped and, most important to me, the heaters were working.
However, the beat I remember from this stay was the breakfast spread, with all sorts of bread, which is unite typical for Germany. Beside the bread you can chose between home made marmalade, ham, bacon, cheese etc. the coffe they serves was better than usual hotel standard. The entire staff was friendly, helpful and even smiling.
Have been staying there for 3 nights, no regrets - just be aware that the next city is at least half an hour to z45 minutes drive away.
