We love this little secret hide away. El Sabanero is the perfect getaway for anyone who wants to reconnect to themselves or others. Very cozy, relaxing and comfortable without the unnatural distractions that take us away from our true essence. Donald and Daphne were excellent hosts, and provided us with delectable food, lovely music, great conversations with much laughter. On a moonlight night El Sabanero is breath taking and has to be experienced because words just cannot capture the experience. I highly recommend this resort to anyone going to Costa Rico in search of " The Pure Life'.

Room Tip: Each space is a private cabin... no one is attached to you.

Nice kind of a bread and breakfast feel. Very cozy and comfortable. People were amazing and the weather was great as usual. Food was irresistable. No one to bother you or hound you either. The perfect getaway with whatever you need or want at your fingertips. Can't wait to get back. Looking forward to it. Holaa

We love El Sabanero and can't wait to go back. It's beautiful, relaxing, serene and we had a wonderful time. The rustic cosy cabins are comfortable and private. The pool and dining area is a great place to relax and talk with the other guests about what everyone did that day. The owner, Curt is a great host and Donald creates delicious dishes for the guests. It's a quiet, comfortable location but its only 20 minutes to Tamarindo Beach. Best of both!

We had a great trip. We stayed 7 nights and had a wonderful stay. Donald and Curt are great hosts as well as a chef. The pool is fantastic with a great view. Breakfast was simple but tasted great. Our Cabin was great with plenty of hot water. House keeping not only kept our room spotless but also managed my wifes pile of clothes.
The lodge is only about twenty minutes from four great beachs. Without a doubt a great place to stay and we will return someday.

Friendly helpful staff who can really cook a good meal at a very reasonale price. Accomodations were rather rustic but clean & private. The property location is pretty easy to find but does require you to have a vehicle as it is remote and about 20 minutes from town. The lodge gives off a tranquil peaceful vibe making it a great place to stay for a day or two of relaxation!

We spent 7 nights at the lodge and it didn't disappoint! The staff is so helpful and they welcome you with open arms! We would have wished that we had booked a car but they were so kind to give us a ride to tamarindo or otherwise they would arrange taxis for us. They have a very sweet dog and a cat so it's a plus if you like pets! We can highly recommend El Sabanero - we would love to go back another time! Oh, and Donald makes an excellent mahi mahi dish!

Things to improve: maybe some yoghurt and freshly baked bread for breakfast would be nice, it takes 10 minutes to make the dough in the afternoon and the bread can be put in the oven in the morning? It would be a good idea to hang op a bus schedule for those without a car and maybe write a note with the taxi prices to the different beaches and towns.

Stay warm down there, we enjoyed our stay! hope to see you again!

We spent our first 7 nights in Costa Rica at the JW Marriott Resort. We thought that making the transition to an "Eco Lodge" might be difficult. It was NOT! We were met at our car by Donald (more to come) who got us squared away, even taking our luggage to our hillside cabin. While the room was spare, we grew into it by that night, taking in the intention of being in the country (more than at just another man-made luxury "resort").

The grounds are clean, and the food DELICIOUS (the aforementioned Donald is also the evening chef). Breakfast was good too. As we took in the views (horses and cattle below, and there is an ancient volcano across the small valley) sitting on our homey front porch, and after taking walks along the road amongst "the people", we truly felt like we were experiencing the true Costa Rica.

Lastly, the owner Kurt is a delightful man and responsive host. Tell him what you need and he does his best to accommodate quickly. If you are looking for a quiet getaway with friendly guests, affordable lodging and great service, this is the place to go. We will again!

Room Tip: If you want to hear/see Howler Monkeys in the morning, ask for a cabin on that side of the property.
