My Fiance and I stayed at the El Greco 10th -17th October, and it surpassed all our expectations. Beautiful hotel, lovely warm friendly staff, fantastic location. Sunbeds were plentiful around the pool area and on the beach although we only found use for them on a couple of occasions, as we like to go sightseeing - couldnt imagine going to Crete and just laying by the pool all week. There are so many interesting places to visit that we ran out of days to do it all!!! We caught the local buses to Rethymnon and Heraklion where we visited the ruins of Knossos Palace. The Fortezza in Rethymnon is a must do. We ate out in a couple of different tavernas, always good food, and excellent value. We were more than happy with our room which had a sea view, we fell asleep each night to the sound of the waves lapping up on to the beach. We went for the all inclusive option, or premier plus as it is known in the hotel, and we were more than happy with the selection of food on offer. It could however be a little busy at mealtimes, we found this to be the case most days. At no time did we have to wait for a table, there always seemed to be something available in our favourite spot, out on the terrace, overlooking the sea and the beautiful pool area. Most alcoholic drinks were branded, and there were a vast selection of cocktails available. The bar staff excelled at making cocktails!!! If you ordered a glass of wine at dinner, you were given the chance to taste it first, and if you liked it, then the waiter would leave the whole bottle. The staff at this hotel are very efficient, and so warm, we felt as is they were friends. It astounded us one evening, when the friendly Maitre-d had noticed that we had gone down for dinner a little later than our usual time!! We had only been ther for a few days, In such a busy hotel too, what attention to detail!! We always made an effort to dress for dinner, as this is respectful, and the staff expressed their appreciation and always commented on this and greeted us warmly. We found it sad that a lot of other guests did not seem to bother, at least most of the men adhered to the dress code of long trousers for dinner. The sunset lounge bar staff, in particular deserve a mention. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them, they were always happy and smiling and all had a great sense of humour. Our drinks would always arrive with a small dish of nuts or crisps. Food was plentiful and available all day. There was even a midnight snack bar!! It was my birthday the day we arrived, and that evening, we opened the fridge to find a large birthday cake, decorated and iced with Happy Birthday!!! there was even a card, what a lovely touch. The IL Divo tribute singers were the best entertainent of the week, just beautiful and very moving, two songs in particular, very close to our hearts, moved both of us to tears.Top class entertainment. Thankyou EL Greco for making our stay a happy and memorable one. Would we go back to El Greco, in a heartbeat.
