My husband and I stayed here for 11 days in from beginning of September. We were at first a bit disappointed with the room as the balcony view was the wall of the opposite building, although the sea could be seen if you leaned over the balcony. However, we had not specifically requested a "sea view" so were not really in a position to grumble. The room was rather dark during the day, but we were seldom in it, so that really did not effect us significantly. The furnishings in the bedroom do need a bit of an upgrade (ie the old style TV and headboards on the bed). Although the shower head in the bath was small and looked blocked, it actually provided a real blast of water and worked very well, with hot water always available. The hairdryer did not work but when we pointed this out to Reception we were provided with another . We found the free WiFi rather erratic and were often unable to get on but, with perseverance, usually got there eventually. The pools were clean, with plenty of sunbeds available at a charge of 5 euro for the whole day. The food was plentiful, although perhaps a bit "samey" but we were there for 11 days. Entertainment was provided most evenings and was enjoyable, especially the "Greek Night BBQ" when the food and entertainment was outstanding and really good value at 12 euro per person. The rooms were cleaned daily and bedding and towels changed frequently. The staff were all polite and friendly. The lounge area in the hotel was comfortable and inviting and the bar/taverna was a joy to spend the evening in. If you wished to go further afield, then you could always stroll down the strip and try some of the bars and tavernas. The "White Lady" can be found on turning right onto the strip from the hotel and has a wonderful atmosphere and is well worth a visit. We hired a car for the whole of our holiday as we can feel a bit "stir crazy" if trapped in the hotel for too long. We alternated day trips around the island, with days around the pool. Driving in Crete is an experience not for the faint hearted but, a trip through the mountains to the quiet, layed back, still rather 'hippy', south side of the island is a must (especially if you fancy a 'Mama Mia' moment or two!). After these days out we were always happy to return to the comfort and friendliness of the hotel.
The Hotel provided all you need for a happy, relaxing and fun filled holiday and we would certainly return. Thank you to all the wonderful staff at the Golden Beach!
