“Two Weeks of Enjoyment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

We stayed at AnnaView Apartments in September 2012 for two weeks. The village of Myrtios is perched on a ridge overlooking the Libyan Sea and the dramatic coastline of South West Crete. The views are outstanding. We experienced one of Crete's rare storms from the balcony of our villa at Annaview. It was a sight worth remembering. Temperatures during the day climbed to 30 degrees C and dropped to a very pleasant 15 degrees C at night.

Our apartment, one of the smaller ones, was air conditioned and fully self contained. It was immaculate and serviced daily which was a real treat. Wifi is free. The accommodation was very reasonably priced.

Anna and her family are extremely hospitable but, at the same time, they are in no way intrusive.

The apartment is equipped for simple meals, but we did not do a great deal of cooking, anyway. Myrtios is blessed with five tavernas all of which are good. We must confess that we sampled the lot.

Eri (Anna's daughter) also owns a great restaurant, Sirocco, in Plakias. a tiny town below Myrtios. Despite its size, Plakias houses many small supermarkets and tavernas, as well as a fine stretch of beach. For those who like more secluded beaches, there are some nearby, but plastic sandals are advisable because the shore is pebbly and the sea bed, rocky.

You definitely need a car for Myrtios, especially if you want to explore the Minoan sites. Take care with your Tom Tom. Our maps were not particularly good and I had trouble initially locating Myrtios. You are better off following Anna's instructions on the website.

Our experience at Myrtios contributed to a lasting impression of Crete as one of the unspoilt beach meccas of the Mediterranean. Thank you, Anna and family.

We had a lovely stay at Anna's apartments – Anna, Eri and Yiannis made us feel very welcome. We were very grateful for Anna's lovely biscuits and Eri giving us a lift to the bus station during a storm! The view from the apartments is stunning and the area is lovely, if a little difficult to reach without your own car (we managed by bus but if we had wanted a more sight-seeing holiday it would have been difficult, as, at least during the low season, there are not many buses to this area). In short, Mirthios is relatively remote, but that is why it is such an unspoiled area. The apartment is spotlessly maintained and well-equipped, and our only minor issues were that the shower sometimes did not have enough hot water for two showers in succession, and the internet connection sometimes blinked on and off (although generally the connection was fast and good). Not sure this would be a problem for most people – I think we noticed the internet connection more than most because we spent much of our time working. We especially miss Anna's cat Alexis who became a good friend of ours! We would definitely recommend Anna's apartments.

We stayed in Mirthios at Annaview for 5 weeks.
We had booked there in advance because of the amazing discount of 60%, the wonderful Plakias area, the huge and nice apartment and the facilities that had been offered online (internet, kitchen, heating, etc).
The contact was astonishing friendly starting with our first e-mail.
We loved these 5 weeks: winter time is a very special season there with fantastical views,
empty beaches, gorgeous landscapes, a palpable peace in the air,
and very very friendly locals who in our case were also preparing for and celebrating Christmas and the New Year.

Apartments:
Our apartment was a huge (50 sqm) room with all the facilities you can think of.
A complete kitchen, huge TV, very fast internet connection (!!!).
What's really important in winter time: a super heating system that warmed the room in minutes.
(extra oil costs calculated after the stay: no problem, very fair price)
A lovely roofed balcony with an unbelievable view (check out the pictures on the website!!).
The service was amazing; Anna and Eri clean the rooms very often and very unobtrusively.
The whole apartment complex is one amazing site with palm trees in front of the balconies...

Tavernas:
Next to Annaview you'll find the Dionyssos Taverna run by Eri's and Yiannis's cousin.
In our opinion this is the best taverna around that is open in winter time...
Dionyssos - Mirthios, wonderful Greek food
Iliomainollis - at the end of Kotsalifou Gorge, very good Greek food
Ifigenia - at the crossroads Plakias/Mirthios/Lefkogia - run by Monika from Switzerland, super world vegetarian food
Taverna Mariou - good traditional food
Sifis - Plakias, everything from pita to traditional food

Winter time:
Lonely beaches, wonderful walks, peaceful time!
Temperatures from 10 to 20 degrees.
Rain and wind: but very often the sun comes out and has strength!
The weather changes relatively fast. And clouds do never stay in one place in South Crete....
We went to the beaches many times. Swimming is possible... even if a little fresh...
There are almost no tourists. If you find some, you'll love them, because they are Crete lovers like you.
Plakias is pretty quiet in the winter time, but you'll find:
a few cafeterias that are open, three supermarkets and the grocery, the bioladen/health food shop and at least one open taverna.
The journey (Frankfurt/Heraklion with one stop in Thessaloniki) was really long but very much worth it!
The flight itself was cheaper than the biggest bargain flight we ever had to Crete....

Excellent!

Room Tip: We stayed on the top level of the site, which is very secluded and quiet.

The apartment is just great: it combines style and home comfort, gives you a feeling of staying in your own home. The view from the bedroom and terrace is just spectacular, it opens wide panorama to the bay and majestic mountains. You'll need a car there though, but even if you don't drive the owners are extremely helpful

Our second visit and we have already booked our third! Superb accommodation - spacious, very clean, well furnished and with fantastic views. Booking is made easy by Yiannis (his organistation and administration are excellent) and Anna and Eri look after you every need. The village is lovely, it makes for a great base and has 4 excellent tavernas.
We have travelled extensively across Europe and we feel that this area is as beautiful as anywhere we have visited. Wonderful beaches, great walking and superb mountain scenery.

Flight to Chania, pick up a car from airport, drive Vamos - Georgioupoli - Kournas - Lappa - Kali Sykia - Mirthios and find AnnaView Apartments. Anna and family wish you welcoming and you'll get very clean, comfortable and well equipped apartment. We spent one week in Mirthios and it was very easy to visit for example: Rethimnon, Amari valley, Knossos, Phaistos, Argyroupoli, Frangokastello, Askyfou plateau (war museum), Hora Sfakion, Preveli Monastery and of course many surrounding beaches. For second week we drove to Paleochora, our "home town" as we call it.
