“Amasing views, comfy beds and really helpful staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013 via mobile

Stayed for 3 nights, I'm both dorm and stilted hut. Views are amasing over jungle. Can't believe this place is so cheap! Has a chic but minimalist style. Fits perfect in the jungle!

Place is kept really clean and really does feel like a jungle retreat! Dorms are nice with fans and comfy new wooden bunks. Stilted Rooms are lovely. Worth the extra money with really comfy beds, mosquito nets and air con. But best thing is the view. Even from the shower!

Perfect base to visit orangutans, an absolute must if you go to borneo! Free shuttle over, only 2 minute drive .They also arrange visits to probiscus sanctuary much cheaper than other advertised tours!

Food is really nice and great value, rm12 for meal. Breakfast is much better than your average hostel with choice of egg and sausage!

My tip is don't bother with sandakan, not very nice and nothing there. Only rm40 if arrange transport from hostel if u want to pick up supplies or use atm (only reasons to visit sandakan!)

Had a great stay. Staff helped us with transport and recommended other places to stay too.

We stayed for 2 nights with our children in one of the new ridge buildings in December,on the recommendation of Lonely Planet Guide despite their being mixed reports on Trip Advisor! We had a fabulous time - it is so lovely to find a budget place that is designed aesthetically in a lovely setting. The staff were so lovely and also went out of their way to help us organize onward travel. As others have mentioned, you can be a bit away from it all, and use their shuttle service to go to the sanctuary and the rainforest centre, and they have a small restaurant so you can eat there also. Thanks Paganakan Dii particularly Ella and Midi for a lovely stay!

We stayed here for 3 nights in September and had a great time. They have a free shuttle that to the Sepilok Sanctuary and breakfast is included in the price. You can also eat (a pretty) dinner there every night, which is nice since there aren't that many other restaurants nearby (except near the sanctuary).

It's a great place to go if you find Sandakan too noisy/busy.. Transport to and from there is pretty easy. It's located near route 22, so just ask your bus driver to let you out at the nearby junction. They will come pick you up there if you call ahead!

I highly recommend this place, the jungle view from their deck is amazing!

We stayed in one of the 130 a night double rooms for two nights. It was fantastic. The food was great (the breakfast sausage was a bit weird but nothing too bad), I recommend to beef curry. The service was excellent, shuttles were prompt, staff helpful and friendly.

Facilities were great stunning view from the room, comfortable, well made bed, insect net that actually covered the bed, fan that we could use rather than having to use the aircon... I could go on all day. Wishes we had come earlier, and could have stayed longer.

I cannot recommend this place enough!

The place is pretty awesome.. Overlooking a river and forested area.. It's pretty close to sepilok sanctuary and has a free shuttle... There are no stay rants close by, only near sepilok.. And the food is very very average, even the local food!! Bizarre, but we still really liked the place and the rooms are well done and comfy..

Room Tip: The newer bungalows are the ones to go for...

Loved our 2 nights here. Stayed in a family hut, which was spacious with clean white sheets and great air conditioning and fan. The view into the jungle was pleasant and meals were actually really delicious. Shuttle bus was free and took us to rdc and orangutans. Loved relaxing here away from the busy streets of Sandakan. Would highly recommend.

We had an amazing stay. This place is the epitome of retreat. We stayed two nights, in a ridge view room, and the view was gorgeous. The first day we took advantage of the free shuttle and went to Sepilok and the rainforest discovery centre. The second day, we decided to just relax. We lounged around and read, while enjoying the tranquility. There are hammocks around, some wooden recliners, and the main area has chairs and fans which are nice in the midday heat.
Staff was amazing. So friendly and helpful. We left early in the morning and they were so sweet to prepare a breakfast to go for us!
Getting there from the airport was only 35RM by taxi, so not too bad.
Also, the food was very tasty. Not a tonne of selection if you're a picky eater, but i had the sweet and sour barracuda the first night and the ginger beef the second night and both were delicious. Dinner is 10RM, 7RM if you get the vegetarian option, a bit more for prawns or lamb. We also had the vegetable soup for lunch (5RM) which was tasty. Breakfast is included, and you get two pieces of toast, a chicken sausage and an egg cooked any way you like.
All in all, if you want some peace and quiet, I couldn't recommend this place highly enough.
