“GREAT VACATION”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2013

My wife and myself spent 2 weeks at Alamanda and absolutely loved it. We were second floor facing the ocean and could experience all the scenery, sun, winds and rains.
If you are looking for all the luxuries this may not be for you, but it was clean, the staff was super friendly and you were close to great restaurants, bistros and even a small grocery store, all within a 2 minute walk.
As this was our first visit we were surprised there were no bugs, other places you would be full of bites, we were able to keep the room wide sliding glass doors open at night to listen to the waves.
We had such a memorable visit on the island we have booked 3 weeks in 2014.

Room Tip: Second floor facing the ocean, for sure.

Prime location, only 100 yards from the beach, only 100 yards from Orient Bay restaurants, and only a 10-15 minute drive to Grand Case for the best French restaurants. A good size room, with a little kitchen area and a porch. Very clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. My wife and I will certainly return. A very nice pool area with plenty of shade and plenty of lounge chairs, although most people spend their time on the beach so the pool is never crowded. We were well taken care of at Koako Beach where the free lounge chairs and umbrella were available. The continental breakfast was very good (fruit, croissants, French bread, coffee tea or chocolate) and the service was also very good. There are a couple of good restaurants nearby in the village, La Piment and Table d'Antoine were two of the better ones. Of course the great French restaurants are in Grand Case. Our two favorites are L'Aubrerge Gourmande and Bistrot Caribes. As mentioned in other reviews there is no bottled water or soda available at the hotel, however with a little planning this can be overcome since you have refrigerator in the room.

Room Tip: There are no elevators and in my opinion the first floor rooms are fine

After another bi annual vacation to Orient Beach mostly staying at Alamanda here's what to expect. We will go elsewhere next May but chances are we will be back again.

Negatives

1. Shower head is hard to adjust for a relaxing shower. The short curtain leaves floor soaking wet.
2. Bed is HARD. We're use to it but if you have a bad back it will suffer.
3. Service can vary greatly.
4. No snacks or bottled water on site.
5. TV too small.
6. No screen to keep bugs out from porch.
7. Lot of bug bites in room at night. Keep porch doors shut.
8. Nice to have a small couch rather than rocking chair.

Positives

1. Best location on beach.
2. Best chairs and beach service at Kaoko Beach with Cedric
3. Great bathroom despite shower.
4. Best breakfast ever.
5. Nice pool.
6. Few steps to village for evening meals.
7. Air works well and ample hot water.
8. Keep rooms well serviced.
9. In room safe. Secure grounds.

Room Tip: Second Floor

My husband and I spent 6 nights at the Alamanda. We were very pleased. The room was on the second floor, a delux duplex, I believe with a king bed, which was very firm but comfortable, shower/tub combo, a tiny kitchenette w/ fridge. Note that there is no elevator. Everything was very clean. The veranda was large and the chairs comfy. I spent a lot of time there listening to the waves hit the beach. The view is different now from the pics shown on the website because the trees and vegetation has grown so much. We had a view of the ocean in two places where there were gaps between the trees. Also, there is a small road between the hotel and beach access. It isn't very busy, but you will see vehicles cross sometimes. The air conditioner worked really well. The room was very quiet which surprised me even though it was during the off season. When I went into the bathroom, I could hear the music from the Orient Village restaurants due to the ventilation window in the shower wall. However, when I stepped out and closed to door and went to the bedroom, I couldn't hear anything. There is a small grocery store near the hotel where you can buy bottled water and food to keep in the room. The fridge didn't seem cold to me. However, after 24 hours in there, our water was ice cold. There are several really good restaurants just around the corner that you can walk to for dinner. I highly recommend Le Piment and Cote Plage. I don't recommend the Thai Chi place at all - not much food, not great food, very expensive. The staff at the Alamanda were great. The housekeeping service was the best I've ever experienced. If we are able to return to the island, we will definitely be staying here again. It was the best vacation we've had in our 28 years together.

Room Tip: In Oct. room 214 was very quiet with a lovely view of the pool and glimpses of the ocean. The A/C ha...

Excellent location on one of the most beautiful beaches. Drive not far to Grand Case and other towns. Wonderful staff made us feel right at home. Helped give recommendation for scuba diving and scheduled our dive. Plan to stay here again.

My husband and I just returned from 4 nights at Alamanda Resort. It was very clean and all of the staff was nice and helpful. It was very convenient to the beach and close to restaurants. The breakfast was very good. The only complaint I have is there is no access to any bottled water or any food after breakfast is closed at 10:30 am. It would be nice if they would have included small complimentary bottled water in the rooms, because the store is way too far to walk at night. I would probably stay there again but they need to include a few amenities/necessities for their guests so they don't have to go into the village for quick snack or bottled water.
I thought the beds were comfortable, unlike a few other reviews I read. The mattress was very firm in our room.

Room Tip: Get an ocean view room on the 2nd floor and it is a good view of the pool, courtyard and ocean.

The best location in Saint Marteen. Orient Bay Village has become a central point to visit Saint Marteen. Has many walking distance restaurants and shops. Good continental breakfast included in the room rate. Room are comfortable and with good air conditioning and service.
