4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012 via mobile

This hotel owns the best location on Orient Bay. The arrangement with Kakao Beach for chairs and umbrella places you on the best section of the beach. Far enough away from the nude end if you have kids with you but close enough for a short stroll if you are so inclined. Kakao has excellent food and great service with Cedric at the beach.

Improvements at the hotel include new airconditioning, hot water heater and new cable TV. There was an annoying message that kept popping up saying the cable service was going to be shut off if they didn't pay the bill in 48 hours. The expanded access to American stations was nice.

Age old problems include a shower with a short courtin that leaves the floor soaking wet combined with a worn out shower head that beats you to death. The bed was hard and averagely comfortable. It's obviously time for new mattresses to making sleeping as blissful as your relaxation on the beach.

I was surprised that when we arrived that no one welcomed us back. The next day the girl at the front did recognize us and gave us a warm welcome. Everyone else on the staff was pretty unconcerned about customer service not unpleasant mind you but not connected either.

Generally the hotel is kept nice and clean. The room service is exceptional and linens and things always fresh and clean. We found a large area of mold in our room that was finally taken care of after we brought it to the attention of front desk 3 days later.

Another plus is the village behind the hotel with the best resturant on the Island La Piment. The other resturants are good also.

Having stayed at Palm Court near by on our last visit I'd say we lean returning there on our next visit. Definitely better bed, shower, breakfast and staff. Just a little longer stroll to the beach.

We would love to visit again in the future and will follow trip adviser for improvements.

Things to love here things to loath. Still the best location.

We have stayed at Alamanda 5 times and will go back, its our home in SXM Location says it all, a 1 minute walk and you are on the beach, nice restaurants on the beach (Bikini Beach Bar) and in Orient Village ( Le Piment) just another minute away. The staff is excellent, Franklin, Geraldean and Mathida. Muriel makes everyone feel welcome at the free breakfast every morning, They are just not staff, they are friends who make u feel welcome. rooms are nice, and clean we will go back in 2013 the free wi fi works great so easy to stay in touch

Room Tip: rooms in front of the pool are the best

Decent hotel about 50 yards from the beach. Room was spacious but and could use some updating. Had a kitchenette w sm fridge, pots, pans, plates etc. Cable TV and free wifi in the room. (Wifi may not reach all rooms) We had a balcony w/ a pool and beach view. They have an agreement with the Kakao Beach Bar for free chairs if staying at this hotel. Friendly staff, breakfast was ok.

A great place to stay if you want clean, quiet and comfortable. Loved the small hotel feel. We were greeted warmly, and helped with our bags (Thanks,Peter) to the second floor room. There is no elevator. Geraldine and Mathilde at the front desk were very friendly and very helpful. The room was clean (always the biggest part) and comfortable, larger than the standard US hotel room. Our second floor view of the ocean and pool from the terrace was great. The room had a safe and a small efficiency kitchen for cooking, but we didn't.. Remember you're on the French side and the voltage is 220, not 120 like in the States. We noticed that the staff, who always greeted us, was always cleaning the hotel and it looked it, always spotless. Mathilde at the desk help me get my wifi working, and called a catamaran at night for us to book reservations (more on that later.) They also called a rental car company and he picked me up. My only mistake was not specifying I wanted a small car before I left with him, and he "only" had a larger car at higher cost of course. Otherwise the car was fine. The island only has one main road, but there are side roads and the signs aren't great. Parking in Philipsburg was very difficult. We booked on the Winner Touch Catamaran for a day long trip with snorkeling and had a great time with a roasted pig for lunch. The crew was helpful and friendly.

Right behind the hotel is a square with several restaurants. We went to a different one each night and enjoyed them all. Best part is you don't have to travel at night, just walk around the corner. Three nights there was entertainment on a small stage in the middle of the square. There are also several stores across the street from the restaurants with a small grocery, ice cream and more. You get to use beach chairs and an umbrella at the beach club near the hotel for free, just show the ID card the hotel gives you. There are plenty of water-sports right there, including para sailing, jet skis, kite surfing and more. Language was no problem, everyone speaks English. They accept USD all over the island and give you the exact exchange rate. Many bars and restaurants do a dollar-to-euro even exchange for drinks.

All in all, I would recommend Alamanda Resort. We were treated so well and felt welcomed by everyone there and it made for a great vacation.

Room Tip: We loved the second floor ocean view. Cost more but worth it.

First off, Orient Bay and Alamanda are so cute. We arrived after checking out early of an all inclusive on the Dutch side. The French girl in the afternoon was a dream; incredibly nice, attentive, and helpful. When we were put into a second floor room, she helped us carry our belongings upstairs though we were well equipped to do it ourselves. The room comes with a continental breakfast; you can enjoy it by the pool or they will make you a tray and you can have it in your room. The way it was presented just made you want to take your time eating and enjoying. The room also includes beach chairs and umbrellas for your stay, so you don't have to deal with bringiing money to the beach. The main eating areas are right around the corner and the beach is a minute away. The room is peaceful (bed is a little hard), and includes a kitchenette if you wanted to make food. Free internet. The rooms are spacious and homey, and were spotless. We really enjoyed our stay.

We originally booked for July 31 to August 1 (3 nights). After one night at a mega resort in Anguilla, we checked out early and returned to the Alamanda for the rest of our week long trip.

Here’s why:

Every staff person we encountered was friendly, professional, and accommodating. Not over the top; we are fairly well traveled and appreciate relaxed hospitality. We don’t require a lot of attention.

Rooms were comfortable and clean. The second floor rooms offer privacy and a nice view of foliage and the ocean. The location and resort layout is ideal. We can walk through the common area in flip flops and we’re on the best beach in the Caribbean. No long hike and dressing up. Tip: Room 208 offers much privacy and room 215 offers panoramic ocean views.

The beach is lined with beach restaurants, bars, and activities kiosks. The vibe is chilled out/relaxed. Light waves make it fun. The water was bath warm. There were lots of kids enjoying the water so the ocean is pretty safe.

We were looking for R & R, good food, comfortable accommodation that’s steps to the beach and welcoming staff. We found that at the Alamanda. We will return.

We had previously stayed at the Grand Case Beach Club, which was nice as well. We do like Orient Bay better and prefer the Alamanda. We love St. Martin. We plan to return with our extended family soon.

Room Tip: Room 208 for views and privacy. Room 215 for panoramic views.
