My friend and I stayed at L'Hoste, Orient Bay during March Break 2004. We booked a package through Signature Vacations. We are both teachers and couldn't wait to relax on the beach. In general we liked the hotel. It was quiet and small which is what we were looking for. For the most part the front desk staff were very friendly and helpful except for a couple of French girls whose parents must have owned the place or something. The would ignore you if you came to the desk. Our room was very large with two double beds. The bathroom was a generous size and there was a kitchenette. There was just the bare basics as far as cooking utensils and cuttlery. We found that the maids did the bare minimum as on our first day we found a dirty pair of socks under one of the beds. I also don't know if they ever changed the sheet the whole week we were there. The pool area was very peaceful and had a beautiful view of the mountains. The next street over from the hotel is a convience store with great french bread, pizza shop (very good), ice cream store and a few restaurants.
Unfortunately during our stay it was very windy on the beach which made it very chilly and very few people if any went in the water because it was so cool and choppy.
Our other complaint that has nothing to do with L"Hoste is that there were many little beach bars we wanted to go to at night within walking distance but becuase the beach and road along the beach is not lit it makes it unsafe. One night we tried to walk to a beach bar by cutting through a small residental/ vacation rental area which had paved lit streets. We assumed it would be very safe. We were almost attacked by two dogs that were not tied up. As soon as those two dogs charged at us barking every single dog in the neighbourhood starting barking, many others not tied down. It was scary to say the least. That was only our second night and we soon discovered that St. Martin has a serious problem with stray dogs (in Grand Case, on the beach and other resort areas according to the local newspaper), and not tying dogs up and putting them on a lease.
I did enjoy most of our vacation but for future guest I wanted you to know that the beach isn't always as calm as it is in the picture on the hotels website. Also if you don't like dogs I suggest choosing another island.

Stayed at Club-O in 2003 but the year before we stayed at l'HOSTE ,and I must say. That L'hoste is The better hotel .Club-Os Beach is fun during the day but at night there's no pool and nowhere to take a late night swim .Papagyos is fun but after a 90minute Dinner there's nothing left to do there but drink not very much fun. Also L'Hoste is located right in the middle of the beach and the pool is heated,boy what a great place.

PS.I recommend this hotel and beach for adult couples over 40 even though most hotels on Orient bay offer family rates be advised the theme on this beach is clothing optional to (Nude).

We went back to L'Hoste on May18th for 11 days.
It was our 5th time there, most recent was in December. We love the location, love the staff, love the island! We went into Grand Case, Marigot,
Phillipsburg. We shopped, had excellent dinners and beautiful sunsets at the Grand Case Beach Club. We cannot say enough good things about our visit. Our flights to and from Puerto Rico were early and right on schedule. No problems with anything. We rented our car from AAA, they were waiting at airport with our names! We rented a cell phone from Sharon at Royal Palm, that worked perfectly to call back to the states. Weather turned out wonderful to be at beach every day! Only bad thing was coming back to reality!!!
