“Great location, nice room, grounds need work.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2012

We found out about this condo at the site VRBO.com.

Like many of the previous posts we also rented from Amaury and Thibault Meziere. First let me say that the brothers are very helpful, outgoing and responsive to your requests. They were very accessible by phone and email and always took the time to make sure that your every request was taken care of. They have been in the condo rental business for awhile and they are very professional in their business.

Located right on the northern most part of Orient Bay the complex is steps from Orient Beach which is our favorite beach on St. Martin. Lots of activity, bars, restaurants, shops and sights unique to a true "European" beach. You are also close (by car) to the great restaurants of Grand Case.

Our condo apartment was located on the second floor had a million dollar view of the beach. We kept the sliding glass door open at night and were lulled to sleep by the crashing sounds of the waves. The condo is an updated studio, nicely decorated with ample space and a full working kitchen with all appliances. The kitchen was equipped with a toaster, coffee maker, dishes, silverware and pots and pans, so you are able to prepare meals if you wish. We prepared breakfast each morning and ate it on the balcony as we watched the windsurfers. There is no housekeeping, so be prepared to make your own bed and clean up after yourself. There is a washing machine to do your towels, but be you will have to air dry them on the rack on the balcony.

The fresh water pool is one of the largest that I have ever seen. The pool was always sparkling clean and surprisingly quiet with few guests taking advantage of it. Warning! This pool could be in its last days, as it is very old vinyl liner pool. The vinyl liner was separating from the pool walls and the floor base and you could feel the concrete crumbling beneath the liner. If the liner on this pool goes, it will be a very expensive fix! The wood deck surrounding the pool is in rough shape. Be sure to wear sandals or shoes as the edges are rough and the boards are no longer level!

The grounds of the property show signs of wear and is in need of major repair and maintenance. While we saw workers each day working on the grounds, it is like trying to bail out a sinking boat with a teaspoon! Located on a hill, the walkways are steep, the railings are deteriorating, or missing and some of the old stairways are treacherous. The original lobby, restaurant and activity center of the old hotel is in the very slow process of being torn down to make room for more parking. Located at the entrance and center of the complex it is a major eyesore.

Parking is inadequate and if you are out too late, expect a very long steep walk back to your condo.

Overall we were very pleased with the unit and it was as advertised. As condo owners you really dont have much of a say with the grounds.

With the incredible view and the very comfortable condo we found this to be an excellent value for the money and we would not hesitate to rent from Amaury and Thibault again.

Room Tip: Ask about the view! Make sure that you have an ocean view room. Also get a second floor room or hi...

We rented a studio in the Mont Vernon for two weeks in April, and will definitely return as it suited our vacation needs.

It was in a perfect location - a two minute walk to the beach, and with a wonderful ocean view.

And while the kitchenette was a bit cramped, we were able to prepare simple meals which we ate on the balcony.

If you are looking for a place with daily maid service, phone, restaurant and a porter, be aware that this ceased to be a hotel several years ago - it is a condominium complex with individual owners who rent out their apartments. It is a place for those who simply want a decent, clean place to stay, and who do not mind doing their own housekeeping.

The grounds are not perfect, but are reasonably well maintained. There are security guards constantly on duty.

There is a fairly large swimming pool with plenty of chairs, and shaded areas where you can sit by the pool without burning yourself.

There are no chairs for the beach, but there are several restaurants with chairs for rent a short walk away. We found that sitting beside the pool was fine, and the pool area itself is right beside the beach.

The vast majority of those staying (or living) there were mature adults - only a few had children with them.

Most nights the complex was very quiet. The only sounds we heard were the ocean waves and the wind blowing through the palm trees.

We were not bothered by mosquitoes on the beach or at our condo, possibly because of the winds coming off the ocean at Orient Bay, but we were told that in rainy season they can become a problem.

When deciding on whether to rent here, there are three questions you should ask the condo owner.

First, does the unit have a washing machine? If not, then expect to pay 15 Euro a load at the laundry.

Second, if you need the internet, does your unit have WIFI, or do you have to make your own arrangements?

Third, what view does it have? While many units have a wonderful view of the ocean, others look out on the back of the next building or a parking lot.

Not all units in the complex have been renovated, and not all have been renovated the same way, so your experience may depend upon who you rent from.

We rented from brothers Amaury and Thibault Meziere, who own of the 11 studios. We were pleased by the quality and cleanliness of the studio, which was exactly as presented on their studiosxm website and on the other sites where they advertise. We would certainly rent from them again. They also run a restaurant in Grande Case called the Bistrot Caraibes which is worth a splurge.

There are two other things you should know before renting at the Mont Vernon.

First, those with mobility issues will find the hills and stairs to be a problem.

Second, while you can walk to the beach restaurants during the day, you will need a rental car to either buy groceries or get to a restaurant at night as the complex only has a pizzeria and a very small tuck shop. We rented a car from Automax, which picked us up at the airport, handed us our studio keys (through an arrangement with our condo owners), and then at the end drove us back to the airport.

We enjoyed our stay, and will be back.

My wife and I rented an apartment over New Years week 2012. While the resort needs some repairs we found our apartment to be clean and in excellent condition. We had an outstanding view of all of Orient Beach and the lagoon. We had a secure wi-fi connection and experienced no problems. A car is a must.
I highly recommend Mt. Vernon if you are interested in a quite restfull experience. Grand Case is nearby the the restaurants are wonderful; we also found a very good French pastery shop.

As stated previously...this is not a hotel and has no services except for a pizzeria and laundramat on site. There is no room-service, lobby, nightly entertainment. You are basically renting a small apartment. We loved our experience at Mount Vernon as we had a great condo with a spectacular view. We rented from the brothers, Amaury and Thibault who own a restaurant in Grande Case. Our condo was on the second floor (which I insist where ever we go for security reasons) looked directly down the beach and was mid-way up the hillside. If a view is important to you, as it is to us, I recommend that you do your research as all condo rentals at Mt. Vernon are not alike. Some look over a lagoon and parking lot while others look over other condos. As stated in many reviews there is some work that needs to be done here. The pool work continues at a snails pace. There were some broken globes to outdoor lighting that need replacing. But for the price we felt we got a very good deal. There was never an issue with safety but at the same time we were not out after 10pm. If you stay here I recommend renting a car so you can drive to Grande Case for some fabulous dinners or take a day trip to Pinel Island. Walking the beach everyday is a plus too...the beach is fabulous.
Finally, I recommend renting from Amaury and Thibault as their condos are clean and updated. You may pay a little more but you have a great view. Almost forgot....free WiFi that belonged to the brothers and not an unsecured one you had to tap into!

After reading some of the reviews I was worried about our stay there. Once we arrived and saw our room and the views from the resort I was glad we chose it. Located at the quiet end of Orient beach it is in a perfect spot. If you want to lay out with very few people on the beach it is a great spot and it is only a 30 minute walk to the opposite end where the bulk of the beach goers are.
The pool is nice, they have been working on repairs to the building around the pool and it is an eye sore but I didn't go to St. Martin to sit at the pool. We spent many nights walking the beach and never once felt unsafe around the resort or the beach. If you are looking for a place with lots of night life this is not it but if you like peace and quiet this is it.
Parking is tight but usually you can find a spot. I recommend getting a smalll car. You can park pretty much anywhere it will fit and people do.
Over all I am glad I stayed and would definetely stay at the resort again.
Thanks Yoda Guy and Gloria for your hospitality.

For any of you expecting this to be a "resort hotel"...absolutely do not stay here! It is an older hotel that was converted to condos. I agree with most of the reviewers that this place is a bit run down, however, we saw improvements being made to the pool area and grounds while we were there. Our condo was absolutely gorgeous. Two bedroom, directly overlooking the pool and Orient Beach. A balcony running the length of the condo with access from the living area and the master bedroom (which was huge with a king size bed). Our condo had been recently renovated (new kitchen an bathroom). The kitchen even had a dishwasher (a luxury in St Martin rentals)!! The kitchen was also well equipped with everything you need to prepare a meal to enjoy on the balcony. Our hostess was there to greet us and she was wonderful. I've rented in St Martin before and this place is a "keeper" in my book. My above rating is based on my individual condo experience.

each condo is owned independently so there is a variance in the quality. Some are great, but the grounds are not good!!!
