“excellent food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

Just had a delicious festive evening meal with 17 friends. Couldn't have asked for better value at only £22 each in what is considered to be a very posh hotel.
Only 2 minor gripes: there is apparently only 1 ladies' toilet downstairs and it was cold; they knew I needed dairy-free so I shouldn't have had to ask for non-dairy margarine and whether there was butter on the vegetables but to give them their due my very own dish of carrots arrived swiftly. They, the sprouts and the roast potatoes were perfect and the avocado in my starter salad was properly ripe. There was a proper towel in the toilet.
Beautifully decorated and cosy room to foregather & postgather in and we were not rushed afterwards.
I shall return as soon as the occasion arises, if only to check that I didn't dream it!

If you like to stay somewhere that has a style of it's own, friendly staff and high quality accomodation then go to the Bourgoyne. It is has splendid setting with views from the rooms on the front. Reeth is a scenic village just right for de-stressing with outstanding walking or driving tours. Staying in the Bourgoyne makes it even more special. The breakfast is excellent -a wide choice all served very hot and well cooked. The lounge with a log fire is just the place to sit on a cold winter evening. A unique small hotel that is relaxing and special.

Great views from bedroom window. Comfortable lounge and dinning room. Dinner and breakfast were good. Staff and service helpful and friendly. Disappointed with the size of the room, missmatch of furniture, bed very hard, room too hot even with the window open and the heating turned off. Not en suit and TV reception kept on freezing (digital switch over was in September, should have this sorted by now).

Room Tip: We stayed in the Grinton room.

We spent three nights at the Burgoyne, along with six friends, early in October. What a good recommendation it turned out to be! I have to admit to having been a bit dubious when I looked at the photos of this very traditional looking hotel - but in reality it was really good. The bedrooms were very comfortable and spotlessly clean. We had a gorgeous view over the Village Green and beyond.

Julia gave us a charming welcome and was very patient with us when we asked if the WIFI might work better in another room. We reluctantly said goodbye to an exquisite view and moved to a ground floor room, with only a slightly less good view, so that we could get a better WIFI connection.

The reception rooms are very pleasant and the food is excellent. Yes, it is a bit expensive, but our experience is that English hotels do seem to be! I think that, when we return (and we have already decided that we will), we might try to find some inn close by to have at least one of our meals. There is no option for a smaller dinner at The Burgoyne and four course meals every night can get to be too much, especially with such generous portions!

It was our first visit to North Yorkshire and The Burgoyne is exquisitely situated in a beautiful village with amazing countryside all round. Lots to see and do.

The staff are all completely charming. Julia and Mo run a warm, friendly, faultless hotel.

Room Tip: If you are bringing a laptop, tell Julia in advance, so she can give you a room where it will work...

The hotel has the feeling of an old family run business but everything is actually very well appointed and modern. The room had a great views of the village and the hills which was very lovely.

The evening meal was delicious and beautifully cooked although I do wish the portions were a bit smaller. I had a superb piece of venison for the main course but could only eat half. It was also lovely to have beautifully polished cutlery and glasses.

Reeth is a wonderful village with a great village square with a lovely atmosphere so I would highly recommend it as a center for a great break.

My only question is over the price of the rooms which seemed somewhat high. In the end I gave this review Very Good value because the hotel could not be faulted but I was a bit torn as to whether it should be Average. Probably therefore a place for the wealthier customer!

Room Tip: Rooms looking out over the square get great views - in our case, the village was quiet at night so t...

We much enjoyed our one-night stay at this traditional country house hotel in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. We stayed in Marrick which has lovely windows overlooking the green and the hills beyond. Even in the pouring rain it was a pleasure to have such an extensive view. The bedroom is well furnished with an enormous firm bed and good bed linen and pillows. I much appreciated the hot water bottle which was thoughtfully provided! The bathroom is also very spacious with bath, separate shower, window seat, armchair and a large walk in wardrobe. There was a welcoming log fire in one of the sitting rooms which was good to see on such a cold day. It was enjoyable talking to other guests over a drink before dinner. Dinner was excellent - every course looked and tasted good and was beautifully served. Breakfast also had plenty of choice with delicious fruits and cereals as well as cooked dishes. We have happy memories of this hotel which we last visited fifteen years ago. We hope to return soon.
