“Wonderful resort - but not a diving center”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2010

We stayed there for 4 to 5 nights with six friends. They were not able to arrange us OWD or AOWD courses, so we were a bit disappointed (we did it with another resort then). Food, service and bungalows were good value for money. Dive masters were nice, but equipment was not well maintained. They also took too unexperienced divers to possibly dangerous dive sites. Luckily we had 3 dive masters of our own in our group of friends.

We stayed 13 nights with our family. Liked the place very much. Very clean, good food, drinking water always available, well organized, calm life and great massage available. A mecca for divers and the pool is fantastic to jump in after diving or snorkeling tour. Their dive instructor for PADI course was very nice and flexible, the dive masters very professional though if you happen to stay during main catholic holidays you might experience slower life than expected/liked but if you asked, all was nearly possible to organize. The only downside was braked and only cold water in family cottages for showering and washing. But they have some cottages with warm water as well. AC available for extra cost. Our cottage was with back towards back-yard and employees living-rooms, a generator somewhere close, so nights were quite noisy but one gets used to it. So could be days but then you mostly dive or stay by pool... We liked the place very much.

We stayed there 4 nights in a family bungalow with 2 kids.
The place is rather good looking compared to the other resorts on Bunaken itself.
The food is good and the hotel has the only swimming pool of the island.
There is a very small beach.
The hotel is located right in front of the best reef of bunaken, which is great for snorkeling (at high tide).
On the negative side: there is no hot watre in the rooms and especially no air conditioning. The fan is hardly enough whne there is 32 degrees in the room !.

Bunaken Village Resort is on Bunaken Island just off from Manado in North Sulawesi. We went as a family of four adults and stayed in one of the two bedroom bungalows. As innkeepers ourselves, we were pleasantly surprised at how well maintained the place is. It turned out to be vary nice to have a swimming pool to relax in after a morning of diving. While the resort does offer it, I was surprised to be very comfortable without air conditioning.

With regard to diving, we had a fabulous time. The dive guides were personable, and extremely helpful. We have been to several places in the Caribbean, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, and this was the best diving we have encountered. The corrals are healthy and thriving and there are all kinds of interesting critters. Don't miss taking a trip over to Banka island, the soft corrals were extraordinary.
