The Lewi chain has several properties in Hawassa. This review pertains to the lakeside resort. We stayed overnight with another ex-pat couple in October 2012. The accomodations were very comfortable and of high quality. Our room was in the main lodge with a view of the lake over a steep roof top. The bed, shower (including steam), and TV were all up to "western" standards. Monkeys play in the trees outside and geese roost on the branches.
The best aspects of the Lewi were the breakfast buffet, which was sumptuous and fresh with a mix of Ethiopian and western favorites, served at the lakeside, and the complementary boat ride to the nearby fish market where we were treated to the frenzy of yellow pelicans being fed fish.
The exercize facilities were the biggest disappointment: a few dilapidated machines in a small room. If you must workout in Hawassa, try the Hileah. We saw the fitness center there, and it is quite nice indeed. Also the shopping is better at the rival lakeside resort: the Lewi has a rudimentary shop. Another issue is the ever-present all-night chanting and singing (Friday night) from the orthodox church across the lake.
Pricing seemed fair, $125 for a double room with breakfast and boatride. A great weekend break!
