“Simply sort out your priorities??”

The rooms are quite good actually as pub rooms go, nice bedding, fairly clean, good internet access and good range of free tv channels. The problem is that they are above a blokes bloke sky tv football pub! The din and the language in a small bar is the last thing you need to eat or drink in and there in lies the problem really? Sort the pub back into a nice relaxing quiet place to eat or drop the room rates to max 60 quid?. Either one would stop the complaints and increase the useage i,m sure. If you do stay there by the way the food is fabulous at the Bull next door and there is also an Indian across the road but 100 pounds a night as it is is time to go elsewhere, problem is everywhere else is usually full.

Stayed at the checkers for one night. got parked up fine when we went to check in it was from one of the barmaids behind the bar whilst she was half way through servicing a drink order bit odd really. The room was fairly clean although the window was wide open with no heating on and it was 5 degrees outside not a good start. The bed was pretty comfortable and the on suite was standard apart from the noise of the saniflow every time water is run and also you have to wait for about five minutes to get hot water out the basin tap and as I'm a plumber this is pretty poor and unhygienic. Got back to the hotel at 12.30am expecting to get a good nights sleep well think again there was a private function directly below us room 4 not really a problem except the fact the music was that loud it felt like the party was i my room. Didn't get to sleep until 3am so missed breakfast in the morning when it came to checking out I expressed my disappointment to the barmaid and two minutes later had the manager walk behind me and mutter well this is a pub as well funny pub then with music playing loud until 2.30 in the morning whilst guests are upstairs trying to sleep, on the website they should state that they have private functions which run late in to the morning clearly they are more focused on taking in money at the bar instead of running a professional hotel, also a very unprofessional approach from the manager letting the barmaid deal with me. If you are looking to stay hear then I would ring up before hand and make sure there is not a private party going on as £80 is well overpriced for a run down old pub. Stay away if you can.

Our first impression of the Chequers from outside, was that it looked a bit run down but we were willing to give it a go, it did cost £100 per night! We were 'checked' in at a busy bar by the barmaid in between her serving other customers drinks and then were shown our room which was up an external staircase and through a fire door which began to alarm as soon as it was opened. We asked if the alarm would be silenced and was assured it would be. We started to unpack and noticed cobwebs extending from the window to the nearby chair. This prompted a closer look around and found several cobwebs in the light fitting. The hangers in the hanging space (not long enough for desses) were so dusty my jacket was covered. My partner went to ask a member of staff to come up and in the meantime i checked the surfaces of the bed side table and TV table, all were covered in dust. The lady came up and told us she had polished the room that morning, and that we should expect a little dust in such an old building!! There must have been a volcanic cloud over the room for that much dust to have collected in a couple of hours! Needless to say we didn't stay. The website pictures give the impression of a smart boutique hotel - reflected in the price - but the reality was dissapointing to say the least. The aarm was still going off when we left too!

When we arrived at midday, there were no gaps in the carpark. My sister went into the bar, and the manageress came out and moved her car for us immediately. Good start. As other reviewers have noted, one books in at the bar, and it took them so long to find our key tha I thought they'd lost the booking.

The room looked great, exposed beams, white bedlinen with black throw and red cushions. A very clean, uncluttered look. There were plenty of coathangers, and enough drawers and shelves to store clothes for a week stay (not that I'd suggest you'd want to stay that long). Lots of tea and coffee, but no herb teas nor bottled water. The kettle would not fit under the tap - I had to fill a glass and pour that into the kettle. The room was quiet, it overlooked a pedestrianized road, but some of the rooms would have undoubtedly been on the busy main road.

The shower room was small, and the excellent standard of the bedroom was not matched in here. There was neither window nor extractor fan, there were gaps in the woodwork behind the toilet, the shower screen had water stains on it, previous guests' possessions had been left in the shower, and instead of one new toilet roll there were the ends of three rolls. Two women emptied two of the rolls and nearly finished off the third in a single night, despite the fact that we spent very little time in the room.

We were there to celebrate a wedding, and when we returned we decided to have a drink before going to bed. The wine was expensive (over £10.00 for two glasses), and we sat outside. The outside area is virtually on the main road, and we watched the cars missing the turning and mounting the pavement. Each of us used the bar toilet, neither of us would visit it again!

We each had a fair night's sleep, I was slightly hot under the synthetic duvet. There was no air conditioning in the room.

Breakfast was taken in the bar. There was a choice of three cerals (but no milk), orange juice (no water, no other juices), and a cooked english. The woman who served breakfast was very friendly, but a tad slow and forgetful. She left two tables uncleared despite making several empty-handed trips to the kitchen. She forgot my coffee, and when it arrived was instant coffee (despite the Costa Coffee signs on the bar windows). I said I'd have tea instead, this was no problem. The breakfast was wellcooked, spoilt by the tinned tomatoes, but was served on a cold plate.

All in all, it was disappointing at thes price.

The bed was nice to sleep on, the room was clean, plenty of coffee and tea in the tray, kettle hard to fill up had to do it with the shower, as kettle does not fit in sink, the toilet is a macerator unit and it makes a lot of noise and a bit smelly, i could also hear other peoples macerator units, single glazed windows looking on to a road, bit noise with the traffic. the breakfast was ok, did not really have much to do with the staff as checked in late, pictures on the internet does not look like it when you get there, Over priced for what it was.

Chose this on the basis of their website, and when we arrived it looked like a run-down roadside pub. The signs were propped up against the building!
Dusty, cold rooms. Way way over priced, but friendly enough staff.

Saw his hotel on google and was central to where I needed to be. I was surprised when I pitched up to see it was basically a pub with a few rooms attached via an outdoors fire escape. There is no reception - you check in at the bar. Don't know about you, but when you walk into a bar rather than a proper reception, all the locals look at you walking in. I arrived around 8pm to be told they had stopped serving food which I thought was early.
Rooms are clean enough and well decorated but were cold due to having a tiny electric heater. Bathrooms are outdated and very small. Saving grace is the staff. Very friendly and polite.
Lastly I paid £100 for this room which is way over priced.
