“Not what it says on the menu.....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

Had an interesting meal last Friday, there was a table of 7 of us to dine and the restaurant seemed pretty quiet. Our initial drinks order was delivered wrong - soda water not lemonade-waitress very apologetic and changed the order. Our order arrived - the Baby Caesar Salad arrived minus the Anchovies- we had to ask for them, the soup arrived - no spoon - we had to ask for one - prawn and egg cocktail - bread no butter - had to ask for some - the latter was extremely bland, not spicy as in the menu and had really tiny, tasteless prawns just with 2 halves of a hard boiled egg - don't recommend. Main course - I ordered the Chicken, Ham & Asparagus pie with 'hand cut' chips and peas - think I definitely got the duff one - my pie was overcooked and only contained 1 bit of chicken - no asparagus or ham or any sauce. Not sure why chips say handcut they could have been frozen ones although the restaurant will probably say they aren't but there is nothing special about them-just chips and a pile of peas very untidily plonked on the plate - for £10.50 you would expect some better presentation on the plate.... could have got pie and chips slapped on a plate from a cafe!! When I complained about the pie I was offered a 'free' dessert - but after 2 naff courses I said I would prefer not to pay for the pie meal - which they did deduct. The people I was with said there meals were ok - the Salmon meal was well presented - perhaps a proper 'chef' did this and not a 'cook'??? Management need to get basic customer needs met - right cutlery, butter - all the ingredients in the meals as advertised - not asking too much are we??? Waitresses pleasant - but not trained properly - good job it wasn't busy! Won't bother with it again, after tiny prawns and a few chips I was still hungry.

“puzzling.......”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

This was a lovelygrand looking place.Good parking. But disappointing. Had to wait a long time for food. Tables poor bare wood no tablecloth or place mats. We decided on 'dish of the day'. It was atonishing. Worst meal ever had in my life. Huge pieces of thick dry bread interspersed with lettuce leaves, no dressing, a few prawns and squewered to hold it down. Tasteless in every way. Inedible. Cheese afterwards some skimpy bits and cheap cream crackers with bits of fruit and celery, and a pool of water as these had been washed carelessly. Was it all a joke, meant to make us laugh? Perhaps we would have been better off with just the soup? So pretentious. Never again!

“Good food, pleasant venue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

A lovely pleasant pub/restaurant. The food was very well presented, although the use if large plates gave the impression the portions were small. This was not the case once you started to eat. Unfortunately, they were short staffed on the evening, but did tell us before we sat down. Consequently, there was a bit of waiting on occasions. The variety on the menu was very good, I struggled to make my mind up, which means I'll have to go back! Price was very reasonable, well worth a visit.

“Poor Sunday Lunch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

We visited here for Sunday lunch. We felt we were an inconvenience and were not welcomed. The food was poor and very greasy and a very slow service. The whole experience was not very enjoyable.
