“Fantastic stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

We stayed two glorious nights here in one of the towers - with our own mini pool. Very luxurious. Dinner on the first night was great and we spent the following morning enjoying our 'room' before a short drive to the coast the following afternoon. Very helpful owner and staff made the three of us very welcome.

“great place lost in the middle of no where”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

this place looks like the original Disney castle except it was not built by disney but restaured by Napoleon de third as a gesture of thanks for the local making his son and heir an honorary citizen of their town. worth a visit the rooms are very quirky and strange but quite romantic with a little Jacuzzi on the roof of each of the four towers.
the internet WIFI works episodically but who cares you are n the heart of the basque country the food is great the place romantic and so ifyou are very in love do go and stay a couple of nights. enjoyment guaranteed.

“Lovely Relais Chateaux Hotel in the Basque Country”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012

We have recently spent 6 nights at Castillo de Arteaga, after having spent couple of days in the South-West France. The "chateau" is really amazing, a big plus for the owners as they managed to entirely keep the original features/architecture of the place while adding just some "flavour" of contemporary architecture. We were a fairly large group traveling with (a lot of) children and accommodation for the entire party was flawless. Breakfast is ok, dinner is outstanding and everything is reasonably priced. Very attentive service, out thanks to Irantxu (at the reception) and Igor (in the restaurant) for making oour stay so good. Overall, a small hidden treasure in an amazing place (the entire Bizkaia region is of unparallel beauty) which hopefully will stay like that for the years to come. Will definitely love to return some day.

“Loved it so much I would almost rather keep it a secret!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2012

I stayed at the Castillo de Arteaga for one night last October with my father and his wife.
I had found the Castillo by accident online and I am so glad I did!
Email contact beforehand was great, we always got very fast replies and had all our questions answered very friendly and with all the info we needed.

We had booked 2 rooms in one of the towers, one on the ground floor and the other on the 2nd floor with a private tower terrace.
The rooms were beautiful, great beds, lovely furniture and amazing bathrooms with huge bathtubs.
Arriving at the Castillo we were greeted so nice, we also had pre-ordered a bottle of cava which was already on ice in the room.
The evening was mild so we decided to take in the scenery from our tower terrace. We had had a very big and long lunch but at some point started to get a bit hungry again so we ordered a plate of lovely local cheeses and jamon.
Later on we decided to try the Basque wines, every time our waiter, Ivan, came over from the main building promptly, brought everything up to the terrace and made sure we had a wonderful time.
As I had to work a little while on vacation having an internet connection was important to me and the hotel's wifi worked perfectly in the room.
The next morning we were served an amazing breakfast with anything you could wish for in the main building.
We had a few hours so we wanted to explore the area a bit and Sorkunde, who had warmly welcomed us the evening before, served us breakfast in the morning and shown us around the main building gave us the tip to visit the "Bosque de Oma", a forest with all the trees painted in beautiful colors by a Basque artist, Agustín Ibarrola. What a great experience and a great tip!

We were really sad that we could only stay one night and wished we could have stayed longer, but we are planning another trip to the Basque Country and really hope to stay at Castillo de Arteaga again.
Not only is the hotel beautiful and the surrounding area lovely, but especially the staff, namely Sorkunde and Ivan made our stay truly unforgettable.
Working in the hotel industry myself I know how important good customer service can be and impact your experience and the staff at Castillo de Arteaga was outstanding.
We cannot wait to come back!

Room Tip: We loved our rooms in the tower and saw some rooms in the main building which were beautiful as well...
