“Mertola's Hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

Dont ask any questions, just go to Tamuje, forget the cafe entrance and head into the back where the restaurant sitting is. Eduardo, the very helpful and smiling young waiter, will guide you through tonights specialities...but just go for thr sheep's cheese, the homemade ham and the wild boar......we went for 3 night's running and never paid more than 40 euros between us....and we couldnt move afterwards.

“Good local family run restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

The restaurant is behind the cafe. We ate here last year but it had been redecorated since then. Also, though locals came in to watch the football match, the sound was kept down this year! The food was typical Portuguese and Alentejo food well presented,. The local wine recommendation was organic and very cheap - the same price as we saw in a shop.

I tried Arroz de Pato, Bife de Atum Grelhado with a tasty salad. Very good quality food and service! Highly recommended!

“Tamuje restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

Be sure to try some regional food here for lunch or dinner. Typical local atmosphere, warm and cosy, place of choice for plenty of locals and not too many tourists, which is a good sign regarding the food quality. Mandatory stop if you happen to visit Mértola.

“Inexpensive but good quality (been going here for years)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

From the outside this restaurant looks like a cafe, but inside and behind is a small dinning room. The food is made by an excellent female chef and is flavoursome. They always have a "dish of the day" which is local portuguese food plus a vast menu. I have never had a bad meal here. For two people main course and wine with olives bread etc it usually costs no more than £15 - £20 excellent. I visit this place normally about 5 times per year.
