“Fantastic weekend!”

The Twelve Hotel

Apr 14, 2008

Just back from a weekend at the hotel and can't praise it enough! We had very long drive from dublin and felt completely relaxed as soon as we walked in the door. We were upgraded to a suite which was huge and very luxurious. Stayed for 2 nights with bed and breakfast and one evening meal in the west which was lovely. The pins bar was great craic with live jazz bands and lovely bar staff, cocktails gorgeous! Only ventured out of hotel to galway city on sat day for some shopping, took taxi in for 15euro. Overall fantastic weekend and was sad to leave on sun! Can't wait to book next break at the twelve!

excellent hotel that we highly recommend with unique boutique decor- we stayed for 2 nights in a superior room over the easter weekend.Elegant bedroom with huge comfy bed ,welcome chocs !bathrobe & slippers supplied -we liked the bathroom mood lighting........ and superb bath products with essential oils -but towels could be fluffier !
Staff were v helpfull & courteous
Breakfast was lovely and cooked to order , we ate in the west restaurant on 1 evening excellent service & food.
Opposite the hotel is also an excellent pub with seafood restaurant - called o'grady's (?)

We spent two nights at The 12 over Easter, and loved the place. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful; we had brought our dog with us under the hotel's pet programme and they left a little doggie goodie bag in the room for him as well as some chocolate treats for us!
You shouldn't miss the food in the main restaurant, West -- we ate there both nights and the food and service were fantastic. For breakfast you can choose from three or four freshly cooked options such as a full Irish, pancakes or an omelette, and there's also yummy scones and pastries from the hotel's bakery next door. All in all a very impressive hotel, I'd highly recommend it.

We booked a 2 night stay at this hotel through it's website after accidentally coming across it while day dreaming of getting away. The website looked too good to be true, with boutique hotel interior design and delicious sounding menus. The price of this 2 night stay was extremely reasonable and included a dinner while there.

To say we were impressed by this hotel is an understatement. My partner and I consistently have to stop ourselves turning into wannabe Michael Winner restaurant and hotel critics and are irritated by the inability of so many hoteliers to provide simple good service - this hotel showed us that what we are after is possible.

The food was some of the best we have ever eaten, the rooms tastefully decorated and full of the little touches that made such a difference (i-pod dock and DVD player etc), the breakfast perfect, the bar pleasantly busy and extremely well stocked (with a bar man who was happy to create cocktails for me while the live music played in the corner), a lovely mix of customers of all ages who all seemed well catered for.

We commented on one of the dishes in particular from the restaurant that was particularly delicious to the manager - it seemed technically very difficult. On our return home the manager called me with some information about the dish from the chef - I have never come across such good service.

I have never written a review here but use it often to check out hotels - I felt compelled to report on this hotel because it was so good.

The only negative that could be found was from my partner who felt that although the chairs in the hotel looked great they were a little uncomfortable - but then again - I think it was just the Michael Winner in him, needing to complain about something!

The hotel is of very good standard for a reasonable price. I have been traveling quite a bit myself, but found the feel of this 4 star Hotel very luxurious. The attention to detail is remarkable, strawberries covered in chocolate on arrival accompanied with a personal greeting card, an iPod docking station, funky lighting in he bathroom etc. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. The duvet was a bit light for a cold march night, but when we asked for a second one it was as comfy as ever. The bed is huge btw.

The heating was easy adjustable and it changed the temperature within minutes which is a big deal for myself. The view from the room wasn't spectacular as it was looking out over the car park, but we asked for a quiet room which it most certainly was.

The staff was very friendly and attentive. The mobile phone reception was very on and off throughout the hotel which is a shame. On arrival, when I asked the bar man where we if there was any network reception in the hotel, he lend me the hotel phone to make the call which is a nice touch.

We had dinner in O'Grady's down at the pier one night where we had a lovely view over the bay. We enjoyed a meal in the restaurant (West) of the hotel itself the day after and we found the seafood to be equally good or even slightly better! very impressed with the food overall. breakfast was great too with lovely different yoghurts and the scones were fabulous!

We'd definitely go back to this lovely hotel anytimet!
