We were due to attend an event in the Kielder area (at the Observatory) and looked for a place to stay locally. The Saughtree Old Manse is 7 miles from Kielder but well worth the drive. It's a superbly well furnished, clean, modern, characterful and stylish house which was a joy to stay at. Paul and Doreen couldn't have been more friendly and helpful, without being at all intrusive. When, on arrival, the host asks if you'd like to be served coffee and cake in the conservatory, you know you've hit the bed and breakfast jackpot ! The house lies in beautiful Borders countryside with the resulting peacefulness, star-filled skies, lovely countryside.

If Carlsberg made B&B's it still wouldn't be as good as this one. Our stay could not have been better. Cannot fault it in any way.

What a wonderful couple of nights we enjoyed at Saughtree Old Manse! Everything was perfect.
Paul and Doreen are excellent hosts, welcoming, friendly and helpful. The accommodation is delightful, beautifully decorated and comfortable. The breakfast superb with a wide selection of food to choose from and the best ever poached eggs.
Then there's the garden to enjoy, wandering around, watching the birds feeding and flitting amongst the bushes and flowers, pausing to smell the roses, or just sitting a while to relax in this magnificent setting.
Cast your eyes beyond the Old Manse to the glorious countryside, there for you to explore, on foot or by car, with so much close by to see and do.
Have a wonderful time - we did!

Paul and Doreen made us feel very welcomed, like home from home. Nothing was too much trouble for them . Food was excellent, room very comfortable and location was very peaceful. All attributes for a enjoyable break. We would not hesitate to recommend them and looking forward to our next visit.

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The hosts, Paul and Doreen, were just lovely people who made us very welcome, looked after us so well and invited us to read any of the many books around the house.
Our bedroom was spacious with a view over the hills, the bed was comfortable and the new bathroom was just next door. The furnishings in all of the rooms we used were cosy and inviting..
The breakfasts were excellent with a good choice and we had a 4 course evening meal on the first night and we were so pleased we had booked it as the food was scrumptious and an added bonus was that we were allowed to bring in our own wine.
We were sorry to leave this great gem of a B & B and hope to visit again in the near future

For our trip to the Kielder observatory we were looking for a place to spend the night.
But we found a lot more!
Paul & Doreen are lovely ,helpful hosts and made us feel right at home.
The bedrooms are clean & cosy and the breakfast is just delicious.
We appreciated the small details like the breakfast ‘wish list’ and tea & cookies in the room.
We had a fantastic stay at the Old Manse and would highly recommend this B&B!

Delightful experience - from the first greeting to the wave goodbye. The couple who run the Old Manse did everything to make the stay comfortable and relaxing. We stayed for two nights, breakfast was slpendid both mornings, with loads of choice and healthy options. Fresh fruit salad- yum. The rooms are spacious, very comfortable and have everything that a traveller could need and more. The warmth and welcome from the hosts was exceptional. Although not en-suite, the beautiful, new and sparkling private bathroom was next door to the bedroom - a mere step away and was not a problem. Take your children, take your Gran, take your friends!
