“Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

Great Value B&B. Very good standard of cleanliness and the food is lovely. Staff were really friendly. Only downside is the room was teeny (we had room 4) and the public areas reeeaalllyy need renovating; which is a shame as the rest of it is really nice.

Excellent value. Clean room and good food in a traditional village pub. Lots of free parking in the village square. Excellent walking/cycling country and friendly and obliging staff and village residents. A lovely drive to Kielder water and Forrest park. Ate in one of the village cafes (Olive Tree) at lunchtime on the first day and it was lovely. A relaxing, away from it all break.

The staff at this hotel were all very friendly and helpful and the chef, Tomas, was particularly nice - happy to talk about the food, no problems with my gluten-free diet, and there again in the morning organising breakfast for the guests. We were given the 'honeymoon suite' as it was the last room available, it was a bit of a hotch potch, badly in need of re-organising, hardly enough room to pass around the bed, a jacuzzi taking up much of the bathroom space, but no shower available. The wardrobe was mostly taken up by a vacuum cleaner and the guest fridge had obviously not been used for a while and showed signs of mould. Dinner was fine but again there was a lack of attention to detail - soup served without a spoon and a spider floating on the jug of water. If I stayed here again I would want a different room and I would hope the owners had bucked their ideas up a bit - we saw no evidence of them during our stay, which was surprising in what is a relatively small establishment.

Room Tip: Don't accept the 'honeymoon suite'.

We booked a 2 day weekend break, the downside is that we were only a half hour from the Gretna Factory Outlet. The staff were friendly and the room was bright and clean, the bed was comfortable, ensuite bath & shower, with a well stocked teamaking facility.
The staff were friendly, the food was great and plentiful.
The hotel is situated in a square and there was ample free parking at the door.
We do not have a negative comment to make, it was one of the best breaks we have had and I hope to visit again soon.

Returned yesterday from a 2 night stay at Liddesdale. What a lovely location Newcastleton is. The hotel staff were welcoming and friendly. The room was excellent and the food both at dinner and breakfast was first class. We can only thank everyone at Liddesdale for a most enjoyable break.

Went on KGB voucher but didn't make any difference to the welcome. We had booked a double room but when we arrived it had been made up as a twin and, although we were quite happy to wait till it was changed, we were promptly offered an upgrade to a room with four poster and jacuzzi. We had a drink in the bar on both nights and the locals were friendly and treated us well. The meals were substantial pub fare and the young chef was very friendly and seemed to take pride in his cooking and presentation. Only gripe was the voucher deal menu was written on a blackboard which was brought in to the dining room and propped up on a chair by our table. Don't think it would have been much of a chore to print a few alternative menus. The only rude people we met in the hotel were other guests, all the staff were very pleasant and friendly. We didn't expect a five star hotel for the price but we were certainly not disappointed and would recommend this hotel as a very nice base to explore the wealth of beautiful countryside the area has to offer.

Had a 2 night stay here recently and really enjoyed it. Our room was very clean but extremely small, Having said that it was more than made up for by the very pleasant and obliging staff. The food was delicious and very plentiful and the staff did everything they could,to accommodate your individual taste. Will be going back....
