We first stayed at Andon Ryokan in 2007 for only a night or two. When we were headed back to Tokyo for 3 nights in April 2013 I didn't look anywhere else, straight back to Andon. When we arrived we were greeted with hot tea and warm hospitality. We arrived right as some other guests were finishing their sushi making class and scored some free delicious sushi - bonus! There is a really friendly vibe around Andon, very easy to meet the other guests and get some tips on where to go etc.
The rooms themselves are very small. Once you roll out the futon there's not much room for anything else. That said, the rooms were cleverly designed with shelves and hooks and a small table, so that you could easily store what you needed and tuck your suitcases away until you need to leave, and the futon and pillows were comfortable. There is free wifi to the rooms, which we didn't find in any other hotels/inns during our trip.
There is a lovely shared bath (a traditional touch with a modern style) which you book for your private use either in the morning or evening (no charge), or you can use the shower anytime. For breakfast you just order what you like and they cook it fresh for you. It's around 300-400yen for eggs & toast. 100yen for orange juice and free tea/coffee (anytime! It's good coffee too...). If it's a nice morning they will even serve it for you on the rooftop terrace where you can get a great view across Tokyo.
The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable about things to do, and speak great English. They run a series of workshops such as sushi making, origami, travel Japanese and tea ceremony. We didn't do any this trip, but last trip we took the tea ceremony class and really enjoyed it!
Andon is a little way out of the main hustle and bustle of Tokyo, but not too far. It is within walking distance of Asakusa and the new Skytree area. A tip: in the instructions on how to get there from Minowa station there is reference to an Udon noodle shop. Do yourself a favour and eat there one night. Freshly made udon are delicious!
I've given Andon 4 stars, the only reservation I have is that our room was right next to the shower and toilets and a sink right outside our door. This was very noisy when people would be using them late at night. Generally I found guests were very considerate, but some activities just can't be quieter when they are right outside your room. I had a great time staying at Andon and would highly recommend it!
Try to get a room away from the communal bathroom/sink.

As you mentioned we don’t have a big space and sometimes guests mind some noise because the facilities and rooms are very close however many guests care other people.
We always appreciate their kindness and understanding.
Also we changed doors to reduce the noise from outside of the rooms. If there are any improvements we will try to fix the problems.
We will have an event everyday except on Sunday so we would be happy if our guests could have a good experience during staying here. Through the events some guests come to know each other and become friends, it will be much more fun.
Thank you very much again for taking the time to write this very kind review.
We are looking forward to seeing you in the near future.
