“Absolutely perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2006

We loved this place:
-the family that runs the place is so friendly
-they speak english
-they welcomed us with a cup of sake
-the room was perfectly clean
-we had a private toilet room and a separate shower room
-the two communal baths are awesome. They have a stone bath and a wooden bath (I preferred the wooden bath) and they alternate times for the men and women, so you will have a chance to try them both.
-we had dinner one night there which was superb. Save your appetite, it is A LOT of food, but so delicious. You get a tatami room all to yourselves and get to hang out in your yukata robes and eat a luxurious dinner.
-The rooms are small, but have everything you need. A hot pot and green tea are provided. Plus a tv and fridge with sake and beer. While you enjoy a hot bath they come into the room to lay out the futons on the tatami floor.
It was the ultimate japanese experience.
-The one problem we had was that we stayed there our first night and because of the jetlag we were up early in the morning and wanted to leave the ryokan before they unlocked the front door (it was 7am). Luckily, one of the staff heard us fumbling around and opened up the door.
-Also - great location, especially if it your first time to Japan. A quick walk to the most popular shrine in Tokyo, and it is a great area to walk around.
I would highly highly recommend this place!!

Very well situated in Asakusa on a quiet side street . Asakusa is the old area of Tokyo where you will find many interesting temples and markets.

Sadachiyo is very much a traditional Japanese quest house , manly frequented by Japanese visiting Tokyo ( we were the only westerners here ) in my opinion this added to the whole Tokyo experience. The staff only speak limited English which again added to the fun. They could not do enough to ensure we had a great stay.

We had a traditional Japanese style room which was of a reasonable size by Tokyo standards. We had a futon that was rolled out on the floor each night and was surprisingly comfortable ( well for a couple of nights anyway ! ) We had a small on suite bathroom that was just fine. However, we chose to use the Japanese style communal baths that was a real treat.

We had breakfast that was served in a traditional dinning area with low tables and cushion to sit on.

In conclusion if you are looking for a little bit of traditional Japan this is a wonderful choice. If you want to stay in a corporate style chain hotel which is the same whatever city you are in this is not for you. But I would recommend being a little bit adventurous and the Sadachiyo fits this bill perfectly.

One recommendation - Get out of the city for a day , take the train to Kamakura.
