“Old Town Tokyo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

Love the rusty feel & the local shops. Just wondering why some people didn't like their shops to be photographed.

“Beautiful traditional area in Tokyo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

A very nice part of Tokyo. It is a 30 minute walk from Ueno Park. A very picturisque part of Tokyo, with cafes and shops tucked away in narrow by-lanes. Stumbled upon a very nice cafe, in a traditional setting, where guests sit on tatatmis. Met some very friendly regular patrons.

The YannakaGinza market is also worth visiting. It has some nice foodstalls, a shop selling traditional japanese tea and japanese tea sets, chopsticks etc. See pictures.

“Old Tokyo”

Fantastic little pocket of Tokyo that modernisation doesn't seem to have touched. Loved the little shopping and cafe strip and also the cemetery was fascinating

“Very quiet. Lovely place to spend an afternoon.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

The easiest way to get to Yanaka cemetary is to take the train to Nippori Station -- the cemetary is literally across the tracks, via a pedestrian bridge. Very easy!

The cemetary is pretty big, it would take a couple hours to see it all. We walked thru about half of it, and then stopped for a while at Tenno-ji Temple. It was very quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed our visit.

“Yanaka and Tennoji Temple”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2013

This place is a must when you are in Tokyo. There are great little temples and it is not very busy (comparatively to Sensoji Temple for example). The best temple by far is the Tennoji Temple. Originally constructed in 1274, this temple is one of the last remaining refuges for the Tendai sect of Buddhism. Visiting this Temple is a truly relaxing and uplifting experience. While most people might find a trip to a cemetery to be unconventional, do take a walk over the cemetery it is worthwhile.
