“Compact, Neat and Comfortable - Good Base to Explore Tokyo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2011

Selected for it's location & 1st anniversary special price - Yen5,890/night including breakfast + free internet. Real bargain for Tokyo, still good value at regular price. Hotel is located literally 1 mins walk from Exit C1 exit. Room is compact yet very clean and neat. Everything you need for a comfortable stay - a kettle, microwave, plate+bowl+cutlery and even a regular size washer/dryer which did a perfect job. Bathroom (with a bathtub!) is pretty good size considering the room is only 15sq metres. Staff speak good English and very helpful. Though daily room cleaning is not available, they change towels and nightshirts daily. Unbeatable shopping with 0101 just across the street, covered access thru Ikebukuro JR to 2 big department stores Nobu+Seibu plus loads of shops/restaurants along the way. WIFI only at lobby though free internet is available in room. TIP - If you carry a big suitcase, EXIT C6 is better with both up/down escalator.

We stayed 5 nights here during our Tokyo trip. It was in my opinion, hassle free and decent business hotel for its price. Location was great, close to Ikebukuro Station where you can find a lot of places to eat and shop.
The room was small but there was a washing machine inside! This was one of the reason we chose this hotel. We were fortunate that we didn't have any problems packing our dirty laundry back home.
Breakfast was included but selection was really limited.

We thought this was a decent business hotel in Ikebukuro..

I spent 10 days in this hotel and everything was great. Rooms aren't very big but modern, clean and well equiped. Service was good, stuff was friendly and ready to help. Location is also good. I'm going to stay there again if will have an opportunity to visit Tokyo.

Super new and clean. Great value for money . The rooms are typically small but have all modern japanese amenities: huge flat screen tv, ion airhumidifier, heated toilet seats with bidet function etc. But the best for longtime travelers is that each room comes with its own washing machine and microwave. There is also a computer and printer (create for printing out maps or timetables) available free of charge in the lobby. The only drawback if you stay longer than 6 days you still pay the same rate but your room only gets cleaned once a week.
Breakfast is included in the price but the choice is limited so it does get a bit boring after a while.
The location is also very convenient very close to Ikebukuro train station. (Follow signs to Fukutoshin Line and take exit C6)

Tokyu Stay is a budget business hotel chain, intended to fit for longer or shorter stays. The Ikebukuro facility was very newly opened (April 2010) when we stayed there.

+ The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The room size was small, but typical for budget hotels in Tokyo, the bathroom slightly larger than average.
+ The in-room washer/dryer, microwave and fridge came in very handy as we stayed for two weeks. There is no wlan, but you can borrow a LAN-cable in the lobby for your laptop. Typical basic room amenities such as toothbrush, shampoo/soap, hairdryer etc were provided.
+ The rates included a breakfast. Only western style though. It consisted of different types of bread, salad, some kind of hot dish, eggs, juice and tea/coffee. Simple, but adequate.
+ The staff was professional and helpful. I don't know whether they can communicate in English or not (I only spoke Japanese with them). This felt like a hotel catering to business travellers rather than tourists, but they still seemed very happy to help us with any "touristy" requests we had.
+ Location - Ikebukuro has a good selection of shopping and (cheap) restaurants, and excellent transportation options. The hotel is about five minutes from the JR lines, but very convenient for the subway (esp. the Fukutoshin line, which you can use to get to Shinjuku and Shibuya).
- Location - The hotel is on the somewhat seedier west side of Ikebukuro, close to a red-light district. However, we felt perfectly safe walking around the neighbourhood, and nobody bothered us in any way.
- We had booked semi-double rooms, but were given single rooms. The size is ok for one person, but a bit cramped for two. Make sure you actually get a semi-double if that is what you have payed for!
- If you stay a week or more, room cleaning becomes once per week. They still exchange towels and carry out trash etc on a daily basis, and for a small fee they will exchange linen etc.
- There is very little storage space, so we had to keep most of our luggage in the suitcase during the entire stay. A recommendation is to travel lightly and instead make good use of the washer-dryer in the room.

Overall, this hotel offers good value if you are looking for simple but clean accommodation, in a neighbourhood that is quieter than Shinjuku/Shibuya but still offers good options for shopping and dining.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2010

Having been to Tokyo many times (and staying in many 5 star hotels in Asia), it is my first time staying in Ikebukuro area. To my surprise, it has been a wonderful stay at this hotel, and definately value for money.
Tokyo Stay is a well established chain that operates business hotels for short and long term stay. I booked the hotel via their hotel website, which I found very easy to use. The rooms are small ( around17sq m), but it is what I would expect for Tokyo hotels and considering the price I am paying. This location has only opened in April, and they are now offering a special discount for these couple months. The rooms are clean, no frills, has a flat screen TV, and basically all you need. They also have a "ladies floor", which offers more privacy and comfort for female travellers. The photos shown on their website is pretty much true to the actual room.
Most of the rooms here are for single occupancy, which also means there's only 1 pillow, 1 set of towels, toothbrush etc. This would a great hotel for single travellers, or with friends, young couples, who are planning to spend alot of time out and about. There are no facilities here, and I would not expect much from the concierge as well. (Although they were nice and helpful). There is also no English TV reception there, but it was ok for me as I was out most of the time.
In terms of location, it's very easy to find. It's basically across from Marui 0101 department store and the subway station is 5 mins away. Tips: If you are arriving the hotel (with lugguage) by subway, do take the C6 exit as it has an escalator! The closest airport limosuine bus station would be at Metropolitan hotel, which is 5-7 mins walk from the hotel.
