We stayed here for ten days in May. We researched many hotels in the Tokyo area before settling on this one, and it was an excellent choice. First a couple of things about distances, a lot of reviews on here are saying that the main part of Shinjuku is a long way a way, it isn't. You can easily walk to all the noise in ten minutes if the lights are with you. You will however be glad that it is these ten minutes away, you do not want to be in the middle of Shinjuku.
The subway station is a couple of minutes away by foot. Bit of advice for getting here from Narita, go to the JR ticket centre, this is very easy to find. Buy a Suica card and a return on the Narita express. This gives you a return ticket on NEX train and an 'Oyster' card with 1500Y on it. It works out fantastic value for money, it's only available to foreign passport holders. The NEX to Shinjuku goes about every half hour, it's easy to find, all seats are reserved, they will do this for you at the ticket station. When you get to Shinjuku, use your Narita Express ticket to get out of the ticket barrier, then head to the Marunouchi Line (Red one), use your Suica at the ticket barrier then head to the platform that says 'M9-M25', Shinjuku is actually M8. Get off at M10, this is 'Shinjuku Gyoemmae'. Then head for 'Exit 2', use your card again on exit. Now when you are at the top of the stairs turn immediately left and then left a few feet further up the side street. You should see a 'Pronto' restaurant up on the right and then a 'family mart' further up on the left. Walk to the end of this road. Incidentally there are some nice restaurants on this road which are useful late at night, there is also a great bar on the left 'The Pirate Bar', it has pictures of birds with eye patches on it...anyway at the end of the road turn right, there's a 7/11 on the corner and then the hotel is after it. You can top up your card at any station and it's valid on all subways, buses and JR trains (except Shinkansen). For your return to the airport use your return NEX tickets not your Suica card, you will need to get a seat reservation, you can do this on the ticket machine, make sure you select 'seat reservation with discount coupon', then you insert your return tickets first and outcome these and your seat reservation tickets.
The staff are great. Check in was a breeze. We had a lovely double room on the fourth floor. There is 24 hour card access to reception and the lifts so it's all fairly secure. I've stayed in a number of 'business' hotels in Japan and this one is by far the biggest space wise. It's also by far the best value.
We had two very comfortable beds, sliding TV/DVD/Cable box. A desk, lots of lighting a nice little bathroom with an electronic toilet seat (I really want one of these). There was a chair and a table and lots of storage space. There's also a safe, iron, wireless router (per room), hair-dryer, fridge, cooker plate, kettle and microwave. Also I couldn't find any info in any other review but you get a full set of cutlery, cups and plates.
The room was 'serviced' every day, they made the beds, replaced the towels and did all the dishes.
Having the small kitchen was an absolute god send. You can pick up milk from any number of nearby convenience stores and have cereal and make tea (take your own tea bags they have limited choice here). You can also microwave burgers (although they'll quite happily do this in the 7/11 for you). You do get a couple of bottles of water on your first day and some coffee and tea bags.
You have your own wireless router in the room and the speed is very very good. I was getting 30/20 mbps down/up.
The staff were wonderful, on one occasion we wanted to book the 'Robot Restaurant' (see my other review of this) and the chap at reception not only made the reservation telephone call but also gave us a 'buy one get one free' voucher which saved us 5000Y. Also one night when it was raining they had a big bucket of brollys you could borrow.
I really just can't fault it. It's wonderfully located, cheap in comparison and has everything you'd ever want for a short to even long stay.
We didn't sample the breakfast so can't comment on that, but you'd probably be better off just going to the store next to it and buying your own.
One point of amusement is that by the time I got home I had an email from the hotel enquiring about two pairs of shoes we left behind (one the heel fell off) and what we wanted them to do with them. That's customer service.
