“Excellent value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

Located at 4 min walk from Okoba station, 7 min walk from Shin-Okoba station, 15 min walk from Shinjuku station; spacious (for Japan) very comfortable room in a quiet but central neighbourhood. Large bathroom with lots of amenitirs. Simple continental breakfast included. Friendly English speaking staff ( even a French speaking lady at the réception) No doubt at all: really great place to stay in Tokyo; will stay there next time

I stayed here as a solo traveller in April 2013 on my first trip to Japan. The hotel is just 2 mins from Okubu station (JR) which is one stop away from the mayhem of Shinjuku and is also on the Chou Sobu line which is well connected.

The staff were very helpful in helping me organise my time in Tokyo.
The rooms were huge, very very comfortable and came with very nice smelling toiletries. Its always nice to come back to a nice big room and chill out in on holidays!

Breakfast was rather poor, the included breakfast is cereal, toast, tea & coffee so no fresh fruit on offer but the Okubu dori (main high street) is well stocked with loads of places to get food from and supermarkets as well.

The location is brilliant, you could either choose to walk to Shinjuku (20 mins) or jump on a train at Okubu. Okubu as an area is alot quieter so if you find Shinjuku too overwhelming and big to navigate then this hotel is your best spot. I doubt you find this sort of hotel room space in Shinjuku for the price!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a high rise floor for the views

Amazingly spacious room for Japan (or anywhere even), Room had a washer/dryer, Kitchenette, large comfy bed and a minutes walk to the train, 1 stop from shinjuku station.

Great place to base yourself while visiting Tokyo, would definitely stay again!

Stayed here for 5 nights with my friend. For some reason we got upgraded the Studio Premier Aqua room on one of the higher floors. It was a really cool and big room wind windows from floor to sealing and a amazing view.

Pros: Good value compared to other hotels we looked at, amazing view from the higher floors. Comfortable beds and a good A/C unit which did not make much noise.

Cons: Some features in the room had more design than function in ind. Like the white floors that looked hard to get clean. The bathroom with a bathtub in the middle and no shower curtain. The breakfast was not much and if you came close to 10am then most was finished. Eat somewhere else or buy some food at the supermarket on the other side of the building. The staff was not very friendly and seemed bored. (Maybe because they had do give out so many access codes to the WiFi, which seems like a stupid solution by the way).

Location: Was close to the Okubo Station on the Sobu line (a East-West line) which was nice. Also Shin-Okubo station on the JR Yamanote line (the loop line around central Tokyo) was not much further away. And you could walk about 10-15 min south to get to Shinjuku station area, which is one of the worlds busiest stations with a lot of lines connecting.

Overall we had a good stay and can very much recommend this place to anyone. It would seem like there are more cons than pros, but they did not matter that much in the end for us. We were very happy that we found this place.

Room Tip: Try to get the Premier Rooms, if you go off season you might be able to get upgraded for free.

The only real challene was providing direction to this place to the cabbie -- otherwise our stay was perfect. We got a 2br apartment shared by 3: one room had twin bed and the other one had a queen bed. All essentials were made available from slippers, to a dishwasher, all the way to iPod dock. The hotel staff were clearly doing their very best to ensure a hassle-free stay. Breakfast was healthy -- daily coffee, cereal and yogurt kept everyone energized. Family mart is right beside it and the train station is a 5 minute walk. Rows of small hole in the wall eateries -- i think cheap by Tokyo standards -- are also nearby.

A bit pricey but at least you get a huge space which is not usual amongst Tokyo hotels. Would stay here again.

Stayed here for 4 weeks, so having a relatively spacious - for Tokyo - studio was very good as was the price (around 75 euros/night for 4 weeks (rates per night increase for shorter stays). Location is not central - ie., not right in the middle of Shinjuku - but rather an easy 10-15 minute walk north of the JR Shinjuku station (main stop on the main "circular" Yamanote line that runs around central Tokyo). The Hundred Stay is, however, only 200 m from JR Okubo station (one stop from Shinjuku) and only 5 min walk from JR Shin-Okubo (on the Yamanote line. So you have very easy access to anywhere in and around Tokyo.

The district around the Hundred Stay is much less salubrious than, say, Shinjuku itself or Roppongi etc - many small restaurants, bars and cheap stores etc frequented by the locals as well as a large Korean area closer to Shin-Okubo station.

The only real issue with the Hundred Stay is the rather cursoury manner in which the cleaning is done. On arrival found that the entrance/kitchinette floor and carpet in studio had very obviously not been cleaned. Carpet also rather worn and with many stains. This is a general problem as the floors of the common areas and breakfast room never seemed to be cleaned other than a cursory sweeping.

Overall a good address at a decent price especially for longer stays.

Note: full payment required on arrival. Internet via lan cable in rooms, wifi in lobby and breakfast area. Coin operated computers also available for internet.

Reaching the hotel via subway is quite easy and convenient, even with our large suitcases. You have to get used to wheeling your luggage to the lifts at the platforms and try to go to less crowded stations.

Being near to less crowded subway stations (Shin-Okubo 5 mins walk away and Okubo about 3 minutes walk away), it made it rather convenient, though if convenience is top of your list, you may want to consider hotels which do not require you to travel to a main station. If you need Halal food, drop off at Shin-Okubo and look for the Matsumoto 'Drug Store'. There is a street adjacent to it Halal restaurants and supply stores are located. Shin-Okubo area is also a nice area for K-culture vultures. Much livelier as compared to the streets nearer to Hundred Stays.

The room was OK. It wasn't bad. It was functional, though the placement of the sofa made it difficult to open the doors of the wardrobe. The room was rather spartan and could have been better maintained, but otherwise good enough for my wife and I. It was only on our final day there that we noticed we could see Mount Fuji from the window. It was quite a pretty sight.

Breakfast is a basic buffet and it fills you up if you are not too finicky. I don't think they changed menus throughout our stay. A short walk and a lift ride from the breakfast area will bring you to the laundry room. Instructions are provided, which are not very clear. Some trial and error should get you through your laundry. Tesco Express is conveniently located nearby for your grocery and other basic necessities.

Staff are friendly and helped us in locating a cat cafe we wanted to visit. Google Maps in Japan is still a work in progress for those who cannot read Japanese. Overall a pleasant stay. I even managed to experience a small earthquake there and remain safe and sound.

Room Tip: Higher floor to get a view of the city. Request for a rook facing Mt Fuji if you can appreciate its...
